Following my wreckless abandonment of a 30 limit I have taken the option of spending time with like minded outlaws of society listening to people explain to us where we have all gone wrong in life.

I am sure it won’t be that bad but I am beginning to wish I had taken the points rather than waste my day with this rubbish.

Mouth closed, nod, smile, go home.

From the few people I know who have had to do this, they have all come back with nothing more than positives. You might enjoy it smile

Is it not like that scene from that music video where everyone is staring at a 1984esk screen with someone ranting with blank expressions?

I had to do this, and it was a positive use of a few hours.

Certainly much better than taking the points.

Well it was certainly better than expected. It was shocking to find that hardly anyone knew the actual speed limits for cars, vans, trucks and that most thought that they were 7 or 8/10 drivers despite this lack of knowledge! Highlights of the day included listening to one driver try and explain what ESP was, another identifying ABS as 'Automatic Braking System' and a biker trying to explain why he shouldn't have been nicked and that all car drivers were useless.

There is an obvious theme of 'everything is under your control' and lots of positive re-enforcement based around what the instructor was saying being 'right' but it wasn't patronizing which was a relief. I wish they had stated from the outset though that it is not speed that kills it is the inappropriate use of speed that does. They are also trying to get the word out that scamera vans are on the increase due to the revenue from fixed sites being diverted, whether this was BS or not I can only guess.

It struck me that although I have spent far too much time on racetracks improving lines and craft since my 20 min driving test many moons ago my road skills have only improved by my own mistakes. RoSPA and IAM were recommended but I'll spend some time researching before I commit to anything. It can’t do any harm to revisit the basics, perhaps I'll promote myself from 5 to 6/10 smile
