Regular changers of cars
Discussion
Today I found myself with a free morning and as usual I was drawn towards autotrader, pistonheads classifieds, ebay etc..
Now I have only owned my a3 a month (it was meant to be a cheap run around for 6 months or so) but I have already found myself getting bored of this car even in comparison to my previous 318i. Also,k looking around at the prices of other a3s I could protentially make myself a up to £1000 profit on my current car.
I've been thinking about doing quick turn arounds on cars to make a bit of money to get me a bit of beer money for a while as I have a quite a good eye for a bargain and being a student have a bit of free time on my hands to search for cheap cars. I made a small profit on my BMW which I kept for 6months.
Now my question is, does any one else on here buy cars to use as their daily driver but only keep then for very short periods of time and how easy is it to get rid of them? My main worry would be someone looking at the v5 and seeing such a short ownership period and getting put off. The car would have to be registered into my name for insurance reasons.
All input would be greatfully recieved.

I used t get bored easily,I have owned over 50 cars since 1987
I bet there are PH'ers who have owned more but everyone make jokes about my frequesnt changes.
The longest I have owned a car is 4 years and my current car for 3.25 years but it is going this weekend .......and a new one arriving of course

IL'm lucky because they go on my mates traders policy until sold, we usually take the main V5 in the deal and fill out the trader section so the potential owner gets a full V5.
I'm not in it for a profit though, honest guv..I just like to change cars

Best place to sell them is Autotrader primarily and then PH
As much as I would love to go for something fast, I dont hit the magic 21 mark until November so my options are slightly restricted. I would potentially buy another car similar to the a3 to keep for a while in order to resell and make a few extra quid towards my 21st car fun pot.
Although , I'm getting very tempted by e46 coupes

The longest I've ever kept a car is about 9 months. I do some pretty big mileage, so tend to change at about the 10k mark (6 months). That said, boring cars have never made it that long (both past cars have gone withing the 2 month period). For me, chopping and changing means that I can do the bare minimum of servicing and hopefully won't lose out too much on depreciation. I always sell a car on in better condition than when I bought it though (thanks to an anal retentive cleaning fetish), and tend to change the oil and do any bits that really need doing.
I'm hoping to one day find something that I love and want to keep for some time, but at the moment I'm getting out there and driving as many cars as possible before responsibility fully catches up and ruins it for me.
Next on the list? M3 or M5, but 3-dr Sierra Cosworths are sooo tempting (if a little out of my price range).
Maybe one day I'll stop, but there are so many great cars out there to experience!

I tend to keep mine between 10-12 months. I have a very nice company car so it's always a second car/toy and the novelty seems to wear pff pretty quickly with a lot of them.
The current one I can see staying for a while, but that's only because I bought it right and hope not to lose too much money on it, the fact it's absolutley ridiculous and makes one of the best noises known to man also helps!
I'm not browsing GT3 RS's at the moment, honest!

I would change it more often but I rarely use it due to cycling to work and using the people carrier for family trips but the main reason is the wife moans like fook every single time I change my car, so its easier to just keep it, will be three years in October, longers I have ever kept a car, only done 7,000 in it !

I have been known to change cars quite frequently, never made any money by doing so though....
I daren't work out what my losses are but they'd probably pay for a house.

tter. In relative terms, it's a free car. Just pay £200-300 maintenance a year. I could do it myself, I suppose. </lazy git>Gassing Station | General Gassing [Archive] | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
