Hey guys,

If anyone loiters around the Photography section of PH you may know I have been getting into it lately.

Anyway I've got Saturday free and I want to go take some interesting pictures. I don't mind driving a bit to get something worthwhile. I am based in Hoddesdon, Herts. Anything in Herts, Beds, Bucks, Cambs, Kent & Essex.

Cheers thumbup

Would be interesting to hear people's suggestions. Also, I believe there was a thread on this very recently that produced a couple of atmospheric industrial locations near here, worth a search maybe?

I did search for a few things but it was hard to track down. I've also gone through a few pages of thread but can't see anything.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, even if it is just a link to that thread.

Good locations there PP, did you have any issues with access/permission for the hangar or council offices?

I'll add some in too

Tunnel under the A505 between Letchworth/Royston

Benington Lordship Gardens, Benington

Frogmore Hall, Stevenage

Flitwick Manor

I've been purposely vague to see what I get. I do want to do car photography, I just lack people with the cars and I'm not good enough yet to have people volunteer.

I'm liking what I see so far, some interesting locations. Some I think I would have just breezed past thinking they were dull, not noticing the potential.

Nice stuff there Rob.
The Council offices always appear to be abandoned at the weekend, even though there are loads of security cameras I've never been stopped.
With regards to the airfield, be nice to the flying club there and offer a small donation etc.
They've always been good to me.

What about Benington, any permissions needed? Last time I approached Knebworth House they wanted £1,000 a day!

I've used that tunnel on the A505 too, although I did get reported to the Police who turned up all blues and twos only to find out that I had not in fact been run over, as a helpful member of the public had told them!

Thanks PP,

I was quoted £1750 for 4hrs at Knebworth house recently! that was for a commercial shoot though, non-commercial is just the entrance fee.

Benington was just the entrance fee as well (£5) but they're not overly keen on doing it regularly unfortunately, which is a shame because it's a great location. However, I expect that with a better budget, they'd probably allow it wink

Nothing can substitute you going somewhere to research the location. Google Maps/Bing/Multimap are so far out of date now, what you think is a good location, has in all likelyhood been built on frown

Wow some truly fantastic suggestions/pictures there PixelPimp, next time there is a Miura in Knebworth, let me know biggrin Nice little road that smile

Trying to get into more photography and getting some locations locally, so far one I have found that I quite like is Brockett Hall smile

As I said, I am still trying to get the hang of all this malarky! smile

Anyone know of any 'dark' spots in the area? Somewhere without too much (yes I realise this is the south east wink ) light pollution with a good flat (or interesting) horizon for night sky photography.

You could try out towards Ardeley (shooting away from Stevenage) other than that pick a country spot with no major towns for 10-15 miles and you should get *something*

I'd never heard of Ardeley before now, but it turns out it's not too far from Whempstead which I had in mind recently. Having looked on a map, Woodend looks dead in the middle of a bit of countryside and fields, so that may be worth a try.

Ardley is very nice. I have a mate who lives in Ardleybury which is a very impressive sort of castle there.

There is a public right of way running through some of the land so if you can find that it's well worth a look.

We used the "under the A1 at Letchworth" one above for our Retrocars cover shoot with my Mini and the Mk1 Escort
It was a great location as no one came near you and also it was undercover
and the photos came out excellent

A nice moody sky works quite well for really bright cars...

That could have been anywhere, but it happens to tbe the B1004 near Ware.
