We've all had 'em. Well a lot of us have. I'm talking about crap cars that don't do anything particularly well but you loved driving them anyway. I'll start with this. A 1989 Camaro IROC-Z 5.7 that I owned in the US. It was slow, uncomfortable, noisy, and handled like a drunken rhino. I probably had the nastiest interior of any car ever and had the torsional rigidity of a lettuce leaf but for some strange reason I loved it.

So come on, fess up, what was/is your guilty pleasure?

Ive only ever had crap cars. Treat them like dirt, run them to the ground and dont care if they get vandalised. Id love a nice car, but in this country, reading the stuff on here especially, its an invitation for chavs to key it, dent it, make rude gesticulations at you, so id never have a nice car in the UK.

My first car was identical to that, except I had the original pie dish hubcaps. Marginally faster than a 2CV, four speeds and the paint had faded to a nice satsuma colour. I pumped up the Hydrogas suspension and it sort of handled, then proceded to pretty much double the mileage over an 18 month period. It finally died on the eve of my 21st birthday, suffering a broken driveshaft whilst pulling out of a petrol station. Most of the day before had been spent doing 80 on the M1 so I'm glad it went when it did...

Utterly awful, but I still miss it to this day. It is still the only car I've ever had that has earned a nickname- RIP The Aggro...

Honda Civic 1.6

Slow but the most reliable thing I've owned and pretty cheap to run. Could park it anywhere and nobody would even notice it. Great vehicle for just pottering around in

My mate had one and the front left wheel fell off with me in it! I didn't share the love...

My old man's Austin Allegro, Talbot Alpine, Talbot Horizon, my MG ZR, Toyota Starlet, all crap in their own way but each one loved dearly. Actually, scrub the Toyota, it was great. Forget the ZR too, I hated it.

Peugeot 309 1.1 XE... it had go faster stripes. They didn't.

But, skinny tyres, nice handling and light weight made the 90,000 miles I did great fun. Great first car.

I was probably optimistic to fit a rev counter, driving lamps and the steering wheel off a 205 GTi !

Oooo....

My first car - a Fiat Uno 1.4 Chic in Estoril blue. Loud and had horrendous build quality, but I loved it...

Ford Capris,

I have owned all flavours of them just about, a glacially slow 1.6, a few 2 litres and a 2.8i

None of them handled very well, they all rust like an italian, and most peolpe think they are ugly / cannot resist a del boy jibe.

I love them smile

this is my current 2 litre S (which is actually missing most of its rust quota !)

Ooh, good shout. I had a 2.8i special. Loved that too but was replaced with a Mk2 Golf GTI 16v which was better in every way but I hated it.

My old man had one of these. From new it justed rusted itself into oblivion. And now looking back, it doesn't even look very eye-catching.

Same body colour as the image but with bright nylon orange interior. It was the 70's mind.

A 1988 Toyota Kijang - a sort of blue, truck like thing. Leaf springs all round. Waded through floods, riots, you name it in 1998-99 Surabaya Indonesia when it was mine. Not sure I ever got it above 50 mph...

My old 1983 Opel Rekord estate. Looked like a tank. As crude as a tank. Didn't even handle as well as a tank.

It gave me the freedom to bike/paddle when and where I liked. I shed a (manly) tear when it went.

control arm front suspension (no wishbones!) and a high compression 75bhp 1.3 mpi lump, in a 670kg car, was a good giggle! plus they wouldnt die!!!

Had a Rover 216 GTi as a courtesy car for 3 months (while the head gasket and various other bits got fixed on my Clio).

Loved that car, a hoot to drive (probably because it wasn't mine), completely reliable, electrics & air-con that worked and so much quicker than I or anyone else expected it to be! hehe

Original Volkswagen Beetle. Drove one a few weeks ago and it had real character.
