Wifeys mpv seems to eat front tyres...yes all suspension fine geometry correct etc. I know its a 2 ton barge but 3k on the last pair of fronts and 4k on the previous. Anyone know of a particularly hard wearing 235 40 18 xl tyre out there?

Bridgestone Turanza are a good allrounder & wear very well. Little on the noisy side though.

My Passat eats tyres too, the Continentals on at the moment are holding up well, but still soft.
I've been told to get the extra load rated ones (97) as the 95 rated ones go out of shape as has happened with 2 michelins & two Bridgestone Potenzas.

if its doing that to tyres then its got to be something else wrong. Have you had a proper geometry set up ? I dont mean tracking or 4 wheel alignment at kwik fit but a proper 4 wheel geometry set up by someone like wheels in motion ?

What do the worn tyres look like ? scrubbed on one edge ?

What brands are you using? 3/4k is not much! +one get the geo checked by a reputable place.

Pirelli P6000s are so hard they last for ages.

My dad only buys Michelins for his cars and seems to get mega mileage from them.

I'm on 30k on a set of P7s and they have some life left, ~4mm.

Are they wearing evenly across the whole width of the tread?

As others have said, spending money on premium tyres will bring good wear (without sacrificing too much grip, as per a Nankang NS2 etc)

The Pirelli P7 is a good shout. Something like a Bridgestone ER300 will also give good life.

There's got to be something wrong there.

BTW, only a fool admires a tyre that lasts well.

If longevity is a factor in tyres the only question you should be asking is "Which Michelin am i having?". The best demo I have of this is a colleague's Golf GT Tdi 140. He managed 35k on a set of front Pilot Sports, the Contis they replaced them with lasted 14k. He has a binary throttle and clutch and all.

In addition to this my father used to frequently get 40k from a set of Michelin rears on various Bmw's, other family members get more.

I've got Michelins on my Furby vRS, it still munches through a pair of fronts in under 10K. Binary throttle and 310lb/ft smile

48k from Michelins on an A6 quattro (even wear...) with the 3.0tdi and a very progressive style of driving...

Read in a mag about a guy who wanted to make 100k in his transit and not replacing the brakes, pads or tyres! He was over 80k at the time though

Damn, 3-4k from fronts!

I could get more than that from a set of A-048Rs on my Type-R!

How evenly are they wearing across the width of the tread?
