Hi

I have just had this fitted to my car. The standard heat shield will no longer fit so will it be ok for me to leave it without one or should i get a after market replacement to be on the safe side?

Thanks

Seen loads of pics of people without them (and the shields underneath) so I would say don't worry.Depends if things start to melt under the bonnet, really.Just keep an eye on it.

It looks shiny! lick

I like the look of it, but I would get a heat shield, if only to stop more hot air in the engine bay and therefore induction kit.

[home simpson mode] S-H-I-N-Y Mmmmmmm. Heat wrap could be an alternative.

Mine looks just like that, bare manifold.

Problem with heat wrap is it then means heat transfers further down the exhaust and you can end up with very very hot downpipe, catalyst etc, worth looking into though.

It looks like the OP has some kind of shielding for his intake already. Mine does too, but not as well done as that I dont think.

My car sufferss badly from heat soak. I've been measuring intake air temps recently with a probe in the throttle body, and messing abotu with bits of sheet material trying to blank off the intake - it certainly makes a huge difference. A proper shielded intake, taking air from a hig pressure area (scuttle panel/through bulkhead) could work very well.

I think its easier/better, to keep heat OUT of the intake, than to keep heat IN the exhuast system.

IMO the bare manifold poses no danger to anything else in the engine bay, mines been like that for 10 years+. It gets 'warm' under the bonnet but not dangerously so.

Track Dog Racing sell heat shields for non-standard manifolds:

I've also read that some people have fabricated their own out of Fire Blankets?

Hi

Thanks for all of your views and information. I have done quite a bit of research today and have decided that i am going to go for a Track Dog heat shield. I don't want to run the risk of anything melting and from what i have read, it seems to be a necessary piece for when i get my charger.

Will keep you all updated on the result when i recieve it.

Thanks Again...

Charger? Have you checked to make sure that header will fit with a charger? Most aftermarket headers don't!

Isn't that because the header closest to the firewall curves upwards before curving back down on most aftermarket headers (my Racing Beat 4-1 does)?

From the OP pictures the runners look fairly "flat" so it might not be a problem?

I don't know, I just know that most don't fit. Having a Mk2.5 myself there is little point in changing my manifold so I haven't looked into it in any detail.
