On Saturday 31st July I bought a pack of fresh Tesco* Finest quarter-pound beefburgers with a Display Until/Use By date of 13 August on them.

WTF?

That is all.

*I have to use Tesco twice a year as they are the only supermarket which sell the right size bin liners for my kitchen bin. Sorry.

You'd better take them back. They have to be displayed until 13 August!

I don't get it, am I missing something? Doesn't most food stuff have a use by/display until/consume before date on it?

They are fresh, but last for a fortnight? Preservative/Nitrogen/Vacuum Packed possibly?

Exactly. Not only are they fresh meat, but ground meat, thereby maximising the degradation potential of the meat's surface.

Can't see the problem.

'Primal' cuts of beef last up to 28 days in their vac-packs, so 14 days on burgers with a high meat content isn't exactly a surprise.
