Jaguar X-Type diesels
Discussion
Just been looking at a Jag X Type 2.0 diesel, just wondered what the collective thought, its a sport spec all the toys parking sensors, sat nav etc etc. Just need a good comfy reliable work horse as the Saab has died. Am I right in thinking they have Ford TDCI engines or am I making this up???
Any views good or bad welcome.

When my Saab died in December 2009, I bought a 2004 X-type Diesel Estate Sport with all the toys. It is a reasonable car but watch out for the following:
- Dual Mass Flywheel breaking up. Does the clutch rattle as you pull away?
- Camshaft position sensor. If the car is over 60k miles you should replace it. Only costs £20 and is very easy to swap yourself.
- Radio Reception. The roof aerial has an amplifier in the base, this can fail and is a pain to replace. If the radio does not work, don't buy the car.
Other than that, just make sure everything electrical works.
I have found mine to be comfy and economical.

guess what I drive ?
diesel one as well ,mine is the crappy classic model
, had it 4 years and apart from routine service only had to have the egr valve cleaned out once as I don't do many miles in mine
yes it's based on the Mondeo diesel engine ,but some differences ,what I couldn't tell you
I waited years to buy a jagwaaaaaarrrrrrrrr as clarkson says and am well pleased with it ,comfortable ,quiet and good mpg
On a trip to solihull and back (280 miles) I worked out 51mpg and all I did was stick motorway limits most of the time
everyone will have different views of it , so what if it's based on a ford , how many on here drive a ford ?
probably hundreds , I bought mine cos I wanted it and I wouldn't change it for anything
well maybe a 3.0 petrol which does about 22 mpg costs about £300 to tax and a lot more insurance
mine costs £125 to tax and crap all to run

I picked one up about 6 months ago. I sold the RR and Panda and it came into my bros work in p/ex and it was cheap. A 2.0d in Sovereign spec. I thought id run round in it for a cpl of moths then replace it with something id rather have.
Roll on 6 months and its still hear and im really happy with it. It had decent ride and handling, returns no less than 40mpg on a spirited run and feels a nice place to be. I used to hate wheeling the RR down B roads cos it was like a tank and guzzled fuel and the panda was too small and bouncy for long journeys.
This is a great everyday car and excellent vfm.
Having said all that i still have a second car for track/crazy use and dont know if i could commit to a diesel saloon full time.
