What they actually do?

Reason I ask is that i am unsure if they are simply finance salesman and how involved they are in the day to day sales of vehicles?

I also take it they work the same hours as a car salesman (i.e a lot)?

Wherever I've worked, the business manager has been the person who does the company budgeting, financial planning, setting targets for growth, recruitment etc. looking at how to cut costs, looking for new areas to move into or new opportunities for the business to make money, being accountable for setting the business direction, coming up with a strategy and how to get there and so on.

I've never worked in a car dealership so can't say for certain but I would suggest it would not be a customer facing role, it's an internal role for.....managing the business itself.

Finance and insurance salesman regulated by FSA

Once the salesman sells the car they are handed to these chaps to maximize the other bits finance, gap etc

Some dealerships have em big sites normally

Some leave it to the salesman

That would be the Dealer Principle in the car game, I think.

Oh, it depends upon the sales model of the Dealership, some are both salespersons and authorised to provide finance, others are just finance providers.
Just that many of those who are just finance providers have once been salespeople.
Put simply, the best outcome for a Dealership is to sell you the vehicle and the finance.
Even showing you, should you be a cash buyer, how you might benefit from using their finance and "investing" your cash elsewhere.
Always remember, they're selling.
So, know what you can afford (without being stupid), and challenge them to do a deal based on that, having previously researched what terms others might give you for any amount you wish to borrow.

Who can take a motor, wrap it in a bow
Sprinkle it with profit and a touch of F&I
The Chucky Man, the Chucky Man can
The Chucky Man can 'cause he mixes it with cash and makes the payment taste good.

It's only £x a month.
So many only add up monthly outgoings.
Years?, they don't think in those.

They are tasked with increasing income for the garage specifically through selling finance packages. For the finance deals on the table they would look to maximise rate; and for deals that are not finance they would look to try and sell it. They would also look to find better arrangements with other finance houses. Finance comes with its own set of incentives and targets, so they just take that responsibility away from the sales manager for dealerships over a certain amount of throughput.
