I didnt read the poll before voting. Ive done head mods, cams, manifold and exhaust on mine and its knocking out 160+bhp on a non vvc engine with no reliability issues at all.

not sure what your trying to get at here:

Poll: reliability after tuning k series

then the options:

ECU change
Cams, throttle bodies, ECU
Turbo conversions
Honda conversions
Durtec
Std K no mods

Three of which are not tuning the K at all?

then consider that a further tewo of these options are not really viable as they stand, what's the point?

I take your point so have re done it, just trying to find out if reliability is so poor as seems to be with some.

and you think some bland, ill defined poll is going to tell you anything useful?

My understanding is that 160 bhp is a good compromise between reliability and bhp on a K series. If it is looked after it should be fine, (assuming you keep the rev limit at 6800). It will also depend on how many miles the engine has done before the upgrade and how its been looked after. Of course if you do loads of track days in it the chances of problems will increase. But I had mine done three years ago, and (apart from a misfire problem that took ages to diagnose, but which had nothing to do with it's being tuned), it's been perfect. Unfortunately the oil stem seals are leaking so it needs to go in to have that sorted out, but it has done loads of track days, and 9 races in Elise Trophy this year, so I can't complain.
I'd certainly recommend tuning it to around 160bhp. I never regretted it.

Same, + air box and throttle body and no reliability issues for me either.. 12 year old car, 186k on the clock. Not many track days but plenty alpine trips, so well used/ragged.

Same for me, I let it warm up well and then use all it has to give and it has been very reliable during the 40K on the clock - Confident enough to drive it to Ibiza and back, fully loaded with luggage!

How does 160bhp translate itself to the drive and feel of the car? Where does the power come in?
