I have just enrolled on a 12 month part time course at the local College.

I'm going to be learning to disassemble, weld, prepare and spray.

Has anyone else done this and did you enjoy it?

I may also be able to do restoration on my own car in their workshops which should bring it along a lot quicker.

Where abouts is it? I think my Daughter may benefit from this.

I should add, my long term plan is a career change and have my own workshop to do this professionally.

Not many/any then?

I'm fairly surprised, thought there would have been a few.

Whereabouts is it & what was the cost? I've been looking for something like this myself.

Thanks

No, I learnt at the school of hard knocks, and the university of life wink

Although I was taught to weld at uni when I did my HND.

No not at all, but she has bought herself an MG Midget which needs restoring.

I took that completely the wrong way didn't I? wink

When chaps on here mention daughters and bodywork repairs, it is usually related to a spacial awareness related incident hehe

Anyway, the course is at Mid-Kent College, Maidstone in Kent.

I should also take this opportunity to say that it is nice to see a young lady who is enthusiastic about a classic and even more impressive if she does enroll on the course! smile

She has already made a good start on it, just waiting for her A-level time table before we decide to book anything at Mid-Kent.

I haven't done one, but would love to in the future. I'm happy with any mechanical or electrical work, but I have no experience or "natural ability" for bodywork repairs. That's annoying because most of the cars I would like to own are renowned rustbuckets!

Please keep us posted with your progress, I'm sure I'm not the only person who would be interested.

I'm interested in doing something similar too, but I did some research a while ago and couldn't find anything less than 45 mins drive away from me frown

It's about a 70 mile round trip for me each Monday night so not too bad.

I'll make sure I use the iPhone to take some pics as I go along and will keep this or another thread updated. I'll cross post a link on this one if I start a fresh thread.

Course does not start until during Sept so it will be a while until the first update.

I done exactly the same course several years ago at Yeovil Collage. Absolutly loved it, ended up doing five years in a row. Took my P100 pick-up as a project, smooth rear tailgate, roll pan to cover the rear vallance, usuall bodywork and a complete respray to match my Cosworth. Then lowered the rear 8" and the front 4" at home. Unfortunlty they closed the course, shame as they had every available tool right up to jigs and spray booth with oven.

If there's anyone further north interested in this sort of thing, Leeds Metropolitan University have recently reinstated a course in comprehensive vehicle repair and restoration. Probably a bit more expensive and involved than this counrse but it's good to see they're responding to a demand for people wanting to go into business restoring and repairing classic cars.
