E46 satnav is crap

quick question, does anybody know what the best disc is to upgrade to in my E46 M3? can i go right up to a 2010 disc or does compatibility stop long before that?

Depends if you have a Mk 3 or 4 nav computer.

If it's got DVD on the unit then it's Mk 4 and you need to upgrade Firmware and you can then use 2010 maps.

There are aftermarket sellers of these discs at around £30 and the difference they will make to your SatNav are extraordinary.

I only have a MK3 sat nav and I have the latest 2010 UK maps. You can buy them from various sites on the internet for about £30ish, or from BMW for £loads. There are also sites where you can download them illegally but obviously that not advisable

Depends what you mean by the satnav being crap.

The functionality doesn't change with a new disc, so if you think it's going to suddenly give you speed cameras, web access and voice control, then you'll be disappointed.

Thanks ppl. I appreciate the limitations but just the birds eye view alone would be better..and a postcode search! There seems to be a bewildering array of discs on fleabay does anyone knw which one(s) to get? And can i buy the firmware on disc as well?

I actually like it, but then mine is hacked with Speed Cam audio notification, 3D mode and a nice ///M logo upon opening the door!

Sorry to bring up an old thread but thought it best rather than create a new one.

I also have a 2002 M3 but the maps are miles out of date as I found this morning when I drove down the M6 Toll and it didnt know where I was!

Anyone help me find the upgrades I need. Unfortunatly mine is a mk3 with CD
