Anyone have experience of car hire at Faro Airport?
Discussion
I did a Eurobox last year via Expedia for a week starting 1st September. I booked it in May and it was 105 quid all up cheaper than taxis from Faro to Albufiera.
It might be a bit different at short notice as istr that last year they started to run out of cars, and they could not be had for less than about 400 quid according to some on here.
Good luck with it - I hope it's different this year.

I always use sixt.co.uk
reasonable prices for the usual eurobox stuff.
Never been stiffed on extras for cleaning/damage etc and you can drop the car off right next to the airport and walk in, rather than a bus ride away.
Agree with this. Used them last month and they were excellent. I actually booked with holiday auto and they contract it out to sixt. Booking with holiday autos was cheaper than direct with sixt but didn't realise at the time that they used sixt.reasonable prices for the usual eurobox stuff.

Who did you use, what car did you get, what time of year was it and what were the costs like?
I'm going to need a cheapo runabout for 9 days in late October and I'm basically wondering who the best company are to use from Faro.
Any advice appreciated

We hire out there probably a couple of times a year - have done for years now.
Never know who it's with until we get the booking confirmation.
A couple of times we've ended up with older cars, but when we have it has always been an upgrade from what we booked.
Last year we booked a diesel supermini, and ended up with a diesel Megane Estate - it was a few years old, but a much nicer car to have for the week than the Ibiza we were expecting.

I hired one for 3 days a few years ago, and they tried to charge me for a full tank of fuel, plus a refilling charge, even though it was full of fuel. Got the money back for that quite quickly.
However they didn't charge me for the hugh post shaped dent in the boot, where I'd reversed, at speed, into a road sign.
So happy days.......

I've gone the 'cheapest on carhire3000' route before. Worked out well.
Seemed like a lot of people had done the same, and the company were quite small and working out of an MPV in the car park rather than having their own proper desk!
Car was fine though (fairly new Astra) and they were happy for anyone licensed to drive it for no charge - which was handy as there were four drivers in the group!
Didn't have any problems at all.
If you've not already done so I'd buy some excess insurance in the UK - annual policies are pretty cheap.

I used www.holidayautos.co.uk
Got an Astra, from Hertz IIRC.
Pretty good actually.
Edit - I went in June a couple of years ago. Can't remember cost but it was a pretty good deal.

Can I raise this one again and get up to date opinions from those who've been there. I'm going in 2 x weeks time and want a small car for two of us. I don't mind what I get but I DO want to be able to pick it up and drop it off at the airport, just as I would if I was hiring on businessat any other airport, rather than have to get a grubby bus to some dusty off-site parking lot! Happy to pay a bit extra for this. Presumably all the major players have their offices in the airport and I see Sixt has been recommended.

We allways use farocar.com, quick and easy collection and just leave it in the car park when your done.
At the end of May we had a Skoda Fabia estate for 8 days and worked out around £200, no matter what group i've ordered allways ended up with a Skoda Fabia, but they're decent enough for the 3 of us.

Ended up using this company on the recommendation of a family friend. They are pretty much a broker so you won't be certain of who you've hired your car from until its booked, but as they are all located in the same place immediately next to the airport it doesn't really matter. We had no difficulty. We also got a free upgrade to a diesel for the 9-10 days which sipped fuel.
Car was a megane estate, which was rough around the edges but good enough for what we wanted. I'd happily use them again.
