new s3 owner needs some help

hi all

picked up my 1992 s3 today and a 140 mile jorney home great drive with no issues
took some getting use to at first "coming from a tamora" but now i'm getting to enjoy the car

my first question is i'm on the short side 5'6" and can just reach the pedals , what's my options to remedy this and dont say grow lol
can the seat be unbolted and moved forward , can the pedals be moved closer , i did see that leven make extending pedals for the chim ?
or can i bolt on some blocks to the pedals "just an idea" the gas pedal has so much travel i'll fall of the seat in full swing !!!!

my second question is on tick over the engine seems to "hunt" say 800 rpm then rises to just over 1000 rpm and back down again and keeps doing this
any ideas what this could be ? other than that the car runs fine

Hi Keith, nice to hear you have come down from a Tam to an S3!

My seat can be moved forward on rails like how a normal seat would move. Does yours move at all? My S3c has been driven by my fiancee, she is about 5'5", she had no problems.

As for the idle, mines a bit iffy when cold, but when warm I've had no problems.

How does it compare to the Tamora?

The seat just bolts thru the floor, so if it doesnt adjust enough you could always move the rails further forward & reposition the bolts.

The ECU has an anti-stall that will make the revs bouce or hunt if they get too low. Firstly try to adjust the tickover very slightly to say 850 and see if this stops it. If not buy a new Throttle Pot. If you search the forum youll find lots on Throttle pots, look for the rover k series pots on ebay they are the same & way cheaper

Sounds like the idle speed control valve might also need cleaning out, thats a cue for someone to post a pic!

my seat does move ok ! its strange with the seat position i test drove a car last week and it was fine
but this car i need it just a bit more forward
i'll try the tick over first cheers
i had to sell the tamora because of the recession . i'm just geting back on my feet now
so i thought i'd go for a SC3 i cant see me losing any money on this model , fingers crossed resonable to run as well

cant really compare the tam with the SC3 to different tvr's by age
the tam was/is the best fun car i've ever had the speed 6 engine was great , but i always wondered when will she blow, it never did
to early to comment on the SC3 i'm still geting use to her , but after my jorney home i'm pleased with her
nice sound track , the power keeps coming very long throttle movement "hence i need to move the seat" or i'll fall off

I've got an idea that the pedals could be sited in one of 3 forward/backward positions to allow for greater choice with the seat position. Not sure what would be involved in changing that....

There was a pedal box depth option when purchased from new (short pedal box option gave more legroom), so you might have a version that has more length in the pedal box - not something that can be undone as its an integral part of how the "tub" was initially built.

Hi Brian

There was an option for a short/long pedal box fitting listed in the price list but once the pedals are inatalled thats it. The pedal box is fixed to the front bulkhead and pedal positions fixed





Click on price list twice to blow it up to readable size

There is snobbery with TVR ownership just like any other cars . Upgrade downgrade its all a load of tosh , if its a TVR that ticks your boxes then any will do they are all cracking good cars with slightly different characters . For what its worth i think the S and Tam are more alike than many of the other models , the speed six is still knocked but mainly by people who haven't driven one and the handling on the Tam takes your breath away , shame there is so few of them .

Well I have no idea on how to tell the different pedal boxes apart but I can say that if you have a long one I'll swap you for mine!

With my seat right back I have the wheel between my legs and my knees stuck out either side of it! Very elegant

Does anyone actually know what the difference is, my pedal box is coming out soon so I can sikaflex the clutch and brake cylinders in to stop them leaking so I'll be able to have a good look/measure of it.
