Riggers loses ground to Discovery...

When we told you about our great day out at Eastnor Castle in the PH Defender, we mentioned plans for another day where readers could join the PH team and experience getting down and dirty for themselves.

As promised, today we open up the PistonHeads Land Rover Experience for bookings. So if you have ever wanted to drive off-road, why not come and do it with the PH team in a selection of brand new Land Rover products?

The day will be held on the 28^th August at Land Rover's very own Eastnor Castle Estate located in the heart of Herefordshire’s Malvern Hills, a purpose built centre surrounded by miles and miles of off-road routes covering all types of terrain. We’ll be driving through water, along axle-deep rutted tracks, up (and down) ridiculously steep inclines and will be truly testing the limits of the vehicles - with a Land Rover expert in every car to help and guide you through every step.

It’s hard to get across what great day we had at Eastnor last time around, as it can be every bit as much fun doing 10mph through the mud as driving the latest supercar on a track day. If you have never been off-road before it’s well worth coming along, and even if you are an old hand at it, the Eastnor facility will impress you with its mixture of terrains.

PH remembers PistonFest 07 conditions

Everyone who attends will drive at least two different Land Rovers, and driver changes will take place every 20 minutes to ensure everyone gets the maximum possible driving time (good news for us as Riggers tends to hog the driver's seat). Bacon rolls will be served upon arrival and lunch is also included in the price too. For the foodies among us, you will be interested to know that all the food is locally sourced and delicious - we've tested it, extensively. (PH, food matters.)

The format for the day is as follows:

10.00 Arrive for registration and refreshments
10.20 Welcome and safety briefing
10.30 Driving
13.00 Hot buffet lunch
13.30 Continue with off road driving
16.00 Return for refreshments and close

Riggers' dream Landie

A few members of the PH team will be there too (whether that is an attraction or not is undecided) giving you the opportunity to laugh at the poor driving skills demonstrated by Riggers, Chris-R, RacingPete and Garlick as they whimper at the sight of a slight incline, or worry that their shoes might get dirty. (Brogues for country, surely?)

We have agreed a special PH rate of £199 for this day and only 24 places are available on a first come, first served basis. I've done one of these courses at a Land Rover centre in Dunkeld Scotland, absolutely loved it. Had a Defender and a Discovery, amazing just how much better the Disco was offroad than a standard Defender. Electronics are amazing (when they work). I'd do it again in a heart beat but not around for this one.

I did a complimentary 1/2 day LR experience @ Pale Hall snowdonia and then another a while later @ Eastnor.
At Pale Hall I drove what was then the new Discovery 3 and it was very impressive compared to my Disco.
At Eastnor I drove the Def 110 but the conditions around the Eastnor estate were muddier, wetter, etc than when I drove the Disco 3.
Eastnor has miles and miles of true offroad routes.
I dont think its worth £199 quid though. Howevder if you're thinking of buying a LR vehicle then it may be worth it to you.
