Guys,

having only had my 5 for 3 months, I haven't been around long enough to take advantage of an MX5 parts discount session on their exhausts.

I need to replace my backbox as it has a loose baffle on it and it sounds like a bag of nails, altho infrequently at the moment.

The price for a backbox on MX5 parts is £185 for the one I want - can anyone tell me if it is worth hanging on until they get reduced again - what sort of discount do they put on?

My other option is a TT exhaust currently on Ebay which is one of 2 prototypes made by the guys who usually make stuff for MGF/TFs and that crowd seem to rate their backboxes.

I am just not sure whether that will be too loud...

Assuming you have a MK1 & are after MX5parts single exit they often list one on Ebay so you are likely to get one for less than the £185.

To give you an idea of their discount i have there twin exit on my MK2.5 Sport. Usual price is £303. Offer price was £240 & they usualy make £200 - £225 when listed on Ebay.

There is an unused one for a MK1 on there now by the way.

No experience with the TT exhaust i`m affraid.

They sometimes knock them down to 135 from 185, but haven't for 6 months or so. I had the exact same problem as you, but got fed up with waiting and had a second hand standard box fitted.

Some say that the MX5parts one is a bit too noisy.

Just buy the MX5 parts one. It really is not expensive compared to other SS catbacks, and I would guess only 1% of those that have one say it is too loud.

IMO the twin exit exhaust looks fussy, showy and well... crap. Single exit looks far better, and is a perfect fit.

Where you booked into mate - looking forward to seeing the outcome smile

I need a new backbox on mine as its buzzing at 3.5k or so - but i dont want anything massively loud as i don't want to piss the neighbours off. I'd like a slight increase but from what i can see there is no off the shelf interim between a standard backbox and aftermarket system like the MX5Parts one...

I was looking at a custom one perhaps but i am worried the finished product might disappoint.

Booked into CAS in Shotts.

They have done lots of work for mates, and give a lifetime warranty (whilst you own the car).

My requirements sound a lot like yours! No fart can, 4" tailpipes for me.

Hi mate is that the 'performance system'? Looks like pretty good value, is it very noisy/resonant at steady speed?

Just for info - people rarely mention Moss for parts these days, everyone always suggests MX5 Parts first (probably because they do just about every part you could ever need) but Moss was actually around first, supplying parts for MX5s when nobody else was doing it. Their main business is parts for classic cars but they have carried on supplying quality parts for MX5s.

No I don't have any affiliation with them wink
