The Ultima GTR we wish to build will be used for some trackdays and weekend fun.

The spec we are going for will ideally have an LS7 engine and G50 gearbox we want to keep it to standard factory spec so we dont have too many build problems.
The question to anybody is what parts should we be looking at buying and what parts are not neccesary

Should we install the double skin alloy panel?
Full roll cage?
adjustable shock absorbers? (will we need this to raise it to get over speed bumps)
uprated bushes?
gas strut for rear canopy?

(already decided to have factory remove the flash lines as sure they could make a better job than me)

think the AP brakes would be better than than standard brakes for price difference?

If you have no gas struts the clip will just fall back. Could use a bit of string i suppose.

Bigger savings to be had if you have cast rather than billet wheels.

Maybe budget another 5K for the unforseen bits n pieces, inspections, reg etc etc.
Upper 60's to 70K seems pretty much the norm for LS new builds.

Yeah thats what i told the other half, prob now into 65ish, but i was greedy and had two engines.
Factory used to offer cast wheels as an option . That may not be the case now i guess, but there are other suppliers if you fancy something different.

Err...wow!! Is this the goig rate now chaps? Someone must be making a bit-a-coin on this??? No??

Chris, good for you pal. A very exiting time for you (and Shirl?). In a year or so you'll be buzzing about, grinin' ear to ear and feelin' pretty good.

As said above. Your 60 odd K on parts is the norm these days. Mine 55K for an SBC. And 6 months of intensive build.

You'll be better off with an LS7 though.

Appologies in advance.....

For all the questions in the upcoming years of buliding the Ultima GTR... We visited the factory today and put our deposit on the first stages smile

If you reading this post{sure you are}; Thank you to Ted & Richard and the lovely lady serving behind the food counter. Thanks Ted for the test drive, shirl didnt need any more encouragement but your test drive sealed the deal smile

Colour choice dilema, was hoping to see a Black Ultima GTR. The Kwaasaki Green looks good but would need to see a finished GTR to decide before that colour choice.. So looks like we will stay safe with 'Red'..... Time will tell many months before that stage lol

Still undecided about engine and gearbox choice 'ls7' is ticking in my head but on the other hand everybody says you dont need that sort of BHP and a SBC could be a lot cheaper. many many many months before this stage lolol

Anyway best get back to work frown

it amazes me that everyone overlooks the Ls3..... why?? its 55% of the cost of a LS7 with 90% of the performance. No dry sump (not a real dry sump on the 7 anyway) so a lot less on fittings. The LS3 can be drysumped but unless you are doing a lot of trackdays its not needed and 550-570 bhp achieved quite cheaply on a 3.

Please dont fit a SBC when you can do a 3 for similiar money. A certain well known guy is pretty handy at fitting nice Audi engines, if you plan the engine from the start you can do an Audi for similiar money to a LS3.
