Mondeo MKIII steering issues

Hi I have a 2.0 Ghia 51 plate mondeo I have got a issue and any help would be great. When turing there is a loud knocking noise, also on a couple of occasions the steering wheel has spun in the opposite direction when turing and sometimes it is hard to get in reverse and stalls in the process.
