I'm going to leicester from N/W london in the morning, leaving home quarter to six. i don't want to touch any motorways!

Any suggestions?

Just been looking on google maps and it gives the option of avoiding motorways but it suggests going up the A41 to aylesbury, A413 and A5 which isn't really what i'm after.

I'll have my tomtom but that'll probably suggest the same route.

I do realise it's not much time and i'd be surprised if anyone answers but thought i'd give it a try.

Cheers for any help, i best get some sleep!

What time do you have to be in Leicester?

Get directions using google maps, tick "avoid highways" and then drag and drop the blue line to some decent roads. If you right click you can add another destination along the way.

The Fosse Way is a good shout, Chetenham all the way to Leicester. Possibly A429 but don't quote me on that. HTH

no specific time to be in leicester but mate is coming at 0645 which is when we'll leave. i may have been a bit tired last night and counted wrong!rolleyes

edit. good tip about the dragging the blue line and creating your own route. think i'm gonna try A1081, A6, A428, A508 and then A6 again. its better then going up the bloody motorway at least!

cheltenham seems a bit too far west but thanks for all suggestionsthumbup

dont know about the first half, but the road past bruntingthorpe to Leicester is lovely- fast, flowing and little traffic at that time of day. It forms part of my own "evo triangle"

I didn't mean get on at Cheltenham, that's where the road starts up to Leicester. Sorry for not pointing that out.

I think you may be unable to avoid motorways for the first bit of your journey, but if you come off the M1 at J14, head for Newport Pagnell, then take the B526 to Northampton, you can pick up the A5199 which will take you all the way to Leicester.

The A5199 is a very nice road.

yep rich lol, thanks for the suggestions, i'll try the A5199 next time.

Had a good drive, went up through harrow towards watford, A41, A5183, A1081, B653, cant remember the rest but i think there was the A428 and A6 involved.

I've driven a road between bruntingthorpe and leicester before, very enjoyable, fast, flowing and good visibilty, good suggestion.

The fact that i went with a mate who has the same car just made it even more enjoyable.

Hankook RS-2s just do not like the damp though! Not a problem though as it started drying up as we got out of london.

Cheers everyone!
