The closest i’ve ever been to death:

about 1 inch or 0.5 seconds, which ever value you prefer. To set the scene, we’re young and dumb, its school lunchtime and we’re on the farmers recently ploughed field (churned up but completely dried out mud). Jason Garnham hurls a stone, a nice smooth pebble, dangerously dense, he would’ve killed me had i not turned my head within the last second

“SSSTEEEEEEEEVVVVVEEN!!!!!”

“what?” – Whizz –“oh,... st” (i later found it funny how i was going to die but didn’t care, obviously due to me not knowing but i’ve never had a more personal example of the great saying “ignorance is bliss”)

In the few seconds after i got strange cold feeling up my spine, like my body was trying to say “oh st brains, you’ve got to scan around more man, we nearly all dieee”(my body is Hispanic). Jason also came up to me, quite breathless and wide-eyed, to ask if i was okay, which was just strange because apart from nearly dying i was fine. It seemed to st him up more than me, although with good reason, he was probably still imagining the horrific potential of the situation that had just dissipated – prison

(a feeling which i would later be able to relate with)

Was it luck or fate or did god intervene to save me? Nah, just me being a jammy bd and not dying

Very nearly stalled a glider on approach to land once. That was pretty scary - too low to recover or 'hit the silk' - just a nice 200ft fall in a fibreglass coffin.

Note for next time: If your approach is shorter that you would like, keep it that way!

Closest iv been is...

Sitting in the back of a Mondeo in the middle with no seatbelt on, the car was stationary and another car comes around a bend and hits us head on in the hard shoulder at our side of the road at 40MPH.
I would have gone through the front window but my mam put her hand across and just about held me although i did fk up my right leg on the centre console.

Yep nearly died on multiple occasions. Thankfully I have had a windscreen in the way from most stones heading my way. The cracks they leave on the screeen are a testament to how I narrowly avoided death. A stone doing 70mph and dangerously dense I would have been mush.

e36 M3, Vmax, blowout.

as the car was pirouetting it's way down the autoroute I honestly though my ticket had been punched.

If I'd hit another car or something other than the very forgiving armco (I love armco, why is it being replaced with concrete barriers) I wouldnt be here to tell the tale.

Snap. Except replace the M3 with a 1 litre Pug 106. Probably slightly less ground travelled per second at vmax though

My mate crashed his mk1 astra SRi on a hill pass behind lake Coniston years ago! he took off on a small humpback bridge and went over the side and rolled it through a dry stone wall! when I came too a wooden fence post had smashed through the windscreen and had knocked my headrest clean off!

Delivering a Lotus Elise pottering along a country road behind a knackered old Transit pick up. The road straightens out a bit and I get ready to make him vanish in a cloud of Rover powered exhaust dust. Just before I do, his complete exhaust box falls off. I see it bounce once and head straight towards the windscreen and therefore my face. I slam the anchors on (thankfully no one behind me) and it hits the front of the clam, bounces up again, hits the screen header rail and then up and over the car to continue its bouncing bomb impression down the road. The Transit continued on its merry way.

Cue new pair of underpants for yours truly and a slightly pissed off customer who got a new clam and a repainted header rail.

Hmmm, lets see, went to work feeling st, got steadily worse throughout the day until the boss decided it would be a good idea to call my mum to come and collect me and take me to the emergency doctors. Got there, doc didnt believe my blood pressure reading, got a second opinion, he didnt believe it either, next thing i know i wake up in casualty. So it seems i had hypothermia and very very low blood pressure, to the point where if they hadnt got me to hospital when they did, i might not be typing this now.

Definately luck. If your mate didn't chuck that pebble, you wouldn't have the worst anecdote of all time to tell.
