Is the 335d the fastest diesel saloon you can buy?

I'm not about to buy one or anything I am just curious. Standard is it the fastest and does it also have the most tuning potential? BMW says at 286bhp it does 0-62 in 5.9s so with all the remaps available that can put it to the 330/340bhp region it must be around 5.5s or even less? While moving it must be even more impressive with all the extra torque these maps claim to give you.


I have never come across anything else that is as fast so enlighten me.

All i will say is, you will struggle to find much faster. Jag XF wont be far off, same with Audi 3.0.

How fast is a V8 diesel Audi A8?

An unrestricted V10 Phaeton might beat it for top speed.

Phaeton v10 might have a slightly better top end; the v10 puts out a bit more than the claimed 309bhp. Otherwise sure 335d.

I would say the Mark 4 Toyota Supra with the Diesel engine would be the fastest I can think of.

Audi A8 4.2 Tdi they tested recently in Autocar was 5.0 seconds to 60 and 13 dead to a 100 - bit quicker than a 335d standard

Everyone has grown up and gotten over the 335d jokes already. Infact apart from those at the start specifically bringing it up noone has said anything similar to what inspired the legendary 335d joke in the first place!

I was after serious responses and at least half of posters have actually added something constructive. EDIT: I'ts actually less than half
