Hi.

Has anyone got an email address to contact BMW ?

I bought an approved BMW. As I drove the car away from the stealers I noticed a mark on the windscreen. When I got home, I noticed it was a chip which seemed to match a few chips on the bonnet. These chips weren't there when I looked at the car before I bought it. The car had 20k miles on it but when I picked it up, driving home, it had 21 k miles so all I can say is this car was getting driven by a BMW tit head who didn't care about the car.

Anyway, I told the salesman about it. He said he would get it fixed but it's now over 4 weeks since I bought the car. I phoned the stealers again and was told to claim it on my insurance. I cant believe the cheek of him! He even told me it's not brand new so thats what i get. So I feel I want to contact BMW and see what they say.

Cheers!

Write to the Dealer Principle. Registered post. Give him 7 days to resolve against the agreement you had at point of sale.

If you didn't agree that any marks would be fixed during the sale - and you had a reasonable opportunity to inspect the car - then you probably don't have a case to have them fixed I'm afraid - you agreed to buy in the condition that you saw it in?

Slightly off topic:
I know it's after the fact, but when I buy (and always used, but from a main dealer) once I think I have decided, I ask the salesman to leave me with the car for 20 mins whilst I go over it carefully - looking for inconsistent paint, marks, dints, etc. Never have had a salesman refuse and last dealer (Audi) offered to put it up on the ramps for me to look underneath as well and the head technician talked me through likely future costs.

His point though is that the marks weren't then when the deal was done.

The challenge will be proving that... and the reality is we can all miss things.

Either way, dealer principle is the best route of escalation, then BMW UK.

You can write to them at this address. However, when I had cause to complain they were not at all interested.

hi,yes the cars just over 2 years old,i know its not brand new but when i looked at the car it didnt have the chipps and 20k miles, once i picked up the car, while driving home i spotted the chip and an extra 1k miles,so i did check the car before i put a deposit down,my receipt somehow doesnt show the £200 deposit, does the deposit go in the salesmans pocket, this is the first and last time i will buy from a bme steeler its the lies i seem to get from them,i even had to wait 2 weeks for car mats and i had to pester them to get them, honestly bmw are run by small boys who dont care about the customer.

You may have grounds to reject the car.

If you paid a deposit for the car with 20k miles, then they should stop demoing/using that car as you have a contract to purchase in that condition.

Did you pay the deposit and agree the terms after driving it at 20k miles? If so, and they then gave you a car with 21k miles, I would be kicking up a massive stink, formally reject the car, in writing, immediately. They will probably then offer you a compromise agreement (money back) and it's your choice to accept. 1k miles and slight damage is materially different.

If the deposit was paid some time after (even days) then it will depend on how the car was described at point of sale.

First point of contact is the DP. Cut out the monkey and give the organ grinder the chance to resolve the issue before refering to BMW UK.

Anyone disagree with this?

Customer Service is not a department to give service to a customer. It's a department to head off trouble from customers with as little trouble and expense as possible to the manufacturer.

I would rather than write to customer service would address a letter to the MD of BMW UK and emphasise how disappointed you are in the Brand.

Works with MB.

I have to say, this is the sort of thing you should expect from the Steelers. They are, after all, a sports team, not necessarily well versed in running a dealership. I'd buy from a dealer in future.

I can't help but doubt that 1k has been put on the car, much more likely as TVR1 said it was just under 21k (but looking like 20k, eg 20978) and with test drive, prep, valet etc. Has ended up reading 21k. With regards to the marks I suspect you just didn't notice them, a good polish and prep covers most marks up when you have the rose tinted sales glasses on, they only appear when you drive away and the glasses come off and you notice that the used car is in fact used.

The problems you describe are minimal and as long as the dealer hasn't done 1k in your car (and even if they had you'll never prove it) which I can't imagine, dealers don't go driving pitch cars around they will use co. Cars or part exes if desperate, you won't ever get anywhere with this.

Had you noticed the marks on initial inspection and got it written down on the order form that they would resolve them you would be fully in your rights to kick and scream that they hadn't been done, but not noticing them comes down to you not them, a used car is a used car and you should expect some body marking, if it were accident damage or rust then agreed an approved used car shouldn't show either but stone chips are a fact of life and lack of them is a luxury not a given.

You seem to have banged that right into reverse havn't you?

So to summarise, you didn't check the car thoroughly (or the mileage by the sounds of things) then because you are annoyed with YOURSELF, wish to make totally unfounded criticisms to BMW GB about a franchised dealer? Not only that, you jump on t'internet and tell all and sundry about 'how ive been ripped off, scummy steelers, conned etc....ad nauseam' This is a problem of YOUR making and not the dealers.

Man up, get over it and please, remeber the phrase:

Grammar, spelling and punctuation are not optional.

But then, I think you are 12 and the above story is shall we say, 'Jackanory?'
