Thanks for the quick response.
I have an old garmin and was just wondering if with the raft of new touch screen models whether they had made it easier to do on screen. Perhaps dragging your finger over the desired route or spotting way points.
Am I expecting too much!
My navman is 6 years old and i can enter a waypoint by typing the place name, going to thye map and tapping the screen at the location I need for my waypoint. That way I can select a waypoint just after a junction to make sure I am on the right road rather than the satnavs choice. Seems to work well, i use it to plan and navigate Le Mans Trips.I have an old garmin and was just wondering if with the raft of new touch screen models whether they had made it easier to do on screen. Be wary though as some satnavs have limited number of waypoints. So far the most I have had on the navman is 37 for a single trip
I use Tyre.
It uses Google maps to allow you to easily plan the route by dragging it around the map, then makes it simple to export that to a file that a TomTom can read.

That looks great. I may buy a Tom Tom just to use that software! It uses Google maps to allow you to easily plan the route by dragging it around the map, then makes it simple to export that to a file that a TomTom can read.

It's definitely worth it. It means there's no more hoping that your sat nav chooses the same route you wanted between the waypoints, you just put in more waypoints closer together so that there isn't an alternative route.
It's made my life a lot easier, because I hate driving on motorways and try go everywhere on as many A/B roads as possible.
The fact that the software is free is just a bonus!
