In NASCAR, when the commentators run out of things to say, they just listen to the noise of the cars for a lap. Might be an idea...

Could we have it on permanently for Legard?

The trouble with switching commentary is that Martin Brundle is so good he more than balances out for Legard, despite Legard being quite infuriating.
I reckon Ant Davidson is being lined up as Brundle's natural successor - and I'm more than happy to listen to the 5 live commentary. The thing that bothers me is that the breaking trackside news from Ted and Lee always appears on the TV stream first, before 5 live...furtive said:

you dont?
No, I think he does an ok jobOK, he's a bit of a dick and he's prone to making some howling mistakes during commentary. But I remember another BBC F1 commentator who did it for a number of years that was prone to the odd gaff

Look on the bright side - it's not James Allen with his faux-excitement and theatrical "And the [insert country name] Grand Prix is.......GO!!!!" when the lights go out

Is a fair point. I can blank out Legard like you would a small dull ache but Allen was like being stabbed in the ears with knitting needles.
Legard seems to be employed to 'just talk' and not ever leave a gap stop. Fine for the radio, but this is TV so I don't quite get that. Anyway, what bugs me about Legard is when he talks over Martin, or prevents him talking.
Martin's input is always excellent, but the agreement seems to be that Legard has priority. Seems to me that if the BBC flipped it so Martin's comments were prioritised it would be much slicker.
Anyway, enjoyable season so far and I think the BBC does a good job.
