I know you will all have a view...... but anyone have any first hand knowledge of them? I suspect they are no Porsche Boxster (my other choice of roadster), but you can get a bit more bang for your buck and they seem to be alot more 'affordable', it's also a newer car and cheaper to maintain. A subjective point, but it is also better looking and more practical (tin roof) than a Box.

I sat in this beauty today and it feels a bit more special inside than a Box. 3D nav is superb.

I've driven a sDrive35i M Sport and a 3.4 Boxster S - the Boxster S is the better car. If it was my money that's where it would go. The 35i is very quick but to me it still felt weighty and just wasn't fun on the twisties like the Boxster is.

I haven't driven either car so cannot comment personally on how they drive but the consensus of opinion is that the boxster is the better drivers car.

However, every time I see someone in a Boxster My first thought tends to be: Why didn't spend the money on an approved used 911 instead?. (I know it's a "Top Gear" cliche but that's what pops into My head).

With the Z4 you know other BMW drivers will see you and think: "Fair play to you!".

With the Boxster, you just know that the 911 drivers (all 20 Million in the UK!), will be looking down on you thinking: "Should have bought a proper one!".

When it comes to the Z4, I can't put My finger on why it should be exactly, but I am completely smitten with the looks of it!. I love the styling and love the fact you get both a convertible and a hard top coupe with it. To Me, the fact that the Boxster is the better car to drive would make no difference, I just know the Z4 would make Me smile every time I looked at it.

There's a dark blue metallic one with a cream leather interior at My local BMW Dealership and every time I see it I can't help thinking: "I want it!". I've never seen a single Porsche Boxster that has made Me think that, ever!.

+ Another advantage the Z4 has over the Boxster is that when you look at it, you know instantly which way round it's facing! (Another "Top Gear" cliche but I couldn't resist!).

For the average driver I suspect the Z4 isn't a million miles behind the Boxster for driver entertainment, and just how often are you going to be driving flat out at ten tenths where the Boxsters advantage really shows anyway?. For My money, I'd buy the car that makes Me feel better overall, not just when driving it, but as I've already shown, I am rather biased towards the Z4.

I was never a fan of the old z4 roadster, but having looked at the new z4 recently I was really impressed, I love the way it looks (especially in white with m sport bumpers), the interior looks great and th folding tin top a great idea.

I love boxsters, I used to own one, but I'd be tempted by the z4.

Well according to a 911 owner + others on the Porsche forum a new Boxster S is a better drive/performance than a cooking 997. To get real 911 thrills you neeed a GT or Turbo....

As a Boxster owner i agree with much of this, but the answer to the question "why didn't you buy a proper one" is: Because I Wanted A Roadster. (Leaving aside that is, that mid-engined Porsches were available a decade before the 911 was out, making the 911 the new boy on the block. smile)

And no, a 911 cab Will Not Do. It's not the done thing.

The Z4 is less of a drvers car than the Z3 and feels slow and cumbersome in comparison. If it were my money I'd buy a Z3 over a Z4 for any day because of this and the fact the Z4 hasn't finished depreciating yet where as a decent Z3 could be a worth while investment if you get the right model and spec. Happy hunting. wink
