Just bought an E46 M3 which apparently is blue tooth enabled (it has the shark fin aerial and the original spec sheet shows it as an option) the guy at S2000 mentioned I would have to get the bluetooth kit fitted but I'm not sure what this would be? Can someone explain what I will need to buy and suggest who I buy it from? I want to link it to my Blackberry. Thanks.

Second question - can you recommend a quickshift for the car? The gearbox seems to have a long throw (although no doubt I'd get used to it...)

Does your car have the comms pack? If you're not sure, pop down your main dealer with the chassis number and they'll tell you exactly what spec you have.

I have the Schnitzer short shift, works a treat on my '04. You can visit your BMW dealer or call BMW Customer Service for a "Spec check".

I'm not sure - but it does have widescreen satnav/TV, a bluetooth shark fin aerial and the dealer print out says something about bluetooth - but in the centre console there doesnt appear to be any sort of fixing or gadget. In my Merc I had to buy a bluetooth connector which plugged in to the built in phone mount but the BMW doesnt appear to have a phone mount? I collect the car on Thursday so perhaps I'd better go straight to a main dealer and see what they say!

Thanks, do BMW main dealers sell Schnitzer parts or should I order direct?

The sharkfin on the roof is for the sat-nav, nothing to do with bluetooth.

If it's installed you'll have a pairing button inside the car - normally located on the console under the armrest. Or you can select the telephone option from the satnav and that should then say activate phone if you've got the bluetooth module fitted.

What year is your car?

Thanks for confirming, I'll check the points you mention when I collect it smile

The car is on an 03 plate.

Should pair directly through the menu on the sat nav/tv module then.

If it's a pre-facelift 03 car then it's unlikely to have bluetooth fitted and from what I remeber they aren't pre-wired for it either. So it's not just a case of buying a module and pluging it in.

If you do a search on the Net for E46 Bluetooth retrofit you'll find plenty of sites were people have done the retrofit but it's a fair bit of work.

I had a similar issue with mine. Was told it was pre-wired for bluetooth, so bought the required kit from bimmernav (google it - you need a module for the comuter that goes in the boot and a microphone that goes behind the light IIRC). Went to fit it and found a lack of wiring. The bimmernav website has a really good fitting guide and you can check if prewired (if dealer doesn't know) buy checking the wiring in the boot behind the cd changer.

Shark fin is definitely for the GSM antenna. The satnav antenna is under the parcel shelf.

Do you have a button near the handbrake? Just in front of the storage compartment, with a face icon on it. If so, Bluetooth is fitted. Hold down the button and turn the ignition to 1, Bluetooth Pairing will come up (but you'll need the pairing key)

Otherwise, you may have 'bluetooth preparation' which, I think, installed all the wiring and microphone but not the Bluetooth unit or the central console (including pairing button and docking cradle)

Hi notax, Schnitzer used to have a close relationship with BMW but I believe they have parted ways.

You can find their products here:

http://www.ac-schnitzer.co.uk/pricelist.php

You will very likely find them on eBay too.
