VW Transporter's
Discussion
After a weekend bumming around Cornwall I have suddenly decided I *need* a VW Transporter T5.
What are these like to live with on a daily basis to do 25k pa? Are the economical? They must be quick enough, some flew past me on the A30. Are other running costs reasonable (how do they compare to say a Passat?

Why, are you a builder?(This will probably pass, after a weekend in Stockholm I nearly bought a V70 shod with winter tyres, and a week in Italy a Fiat 500 Abath - Lucky I go Germany a lot so my BMW should be a keeper).

I'm sure they came with the 150bhp PD at one point. Would be pretty swift when not loaded !
174BHP 2.5 TDI, very fast (for a van) but the 130BHP 2.5TDI is plenty. The smaller 1.9 TDI model wouldn't pull yer noodle straight but can be picked up for less moneyIt is absolutely critical that the correct grade of oil has been used in the engine otherwise it goes for the cams very quickly IIRC. Otherwise heavy front tyre wear and about 30mpg is the norm, less if you shift on a bit. Don't bother ruining one with massive wheels (no bigger than 18" if you must)
Great vehicle to own and drive, Kombi or shuttle spec is best.
I've got a 2.5 130 van, it's my daily driver and i wouldn't have anything else, done nearly 10k in mine since February and it's been a pleasure.
Mine has the cab comfort pack which means it has a carpet (rather than rubber floor covering), better noise insulation, captains seat and elec mirrors and windows amongst other things, this is a very worthwhile option worth seeking out, as it is far more "car like" than a regular van
Mine was remapped before I got it (now circa 175bhp) and as I pull a trailer often this has been a worthwhile upgrade, I reckon I'm also getting around 30-35mpg average at present

Always laugh when people say this. I'm pretty sure you'd have something else if you had more money.FWIW I had a 335d Touring when I bought the Transporter and sold it about 2 months after as I never used it, so it's not a question of money, it's more about what I use my vehicle for, no point having a flash car that sits and loses money never getting used, whilst I run around in my van. Always had a van and a car but since buying this the want to drive a car has all but disappeared
