It's midnight, so bare with me smile

I swapped my car for a Corsa SRi today. The Corsa has been damaged but the man repeatedly said it was NOT recorded. I know the guys son via a forum and they seemed very trustworthy so i presume he didn't know the damage was actually recorded. When i got in i did one of those text reports and the car came back as a cat D.

So how much does Cat D devalue a car? (Asides all the waffle in this post, the text to my lef is the question i want answering smile )

The car is worth 3250 according to my insurers valuation, and i was struggling to sell my old car at 2k, so i think i'm confident in saying i still got a good deal?

The car requires about £50's worth of tidying up to be of the standard of those that are selling in the region to 3-4k

Overall i am happy with the new car, just feel like i've been a bit stupid.

I did the same thing with the MX5, didn't run a check and that came back as Cat D!

Lesson is always do your checks prior to viewing

Good thing the 5 is a good motor and I'm keeping it hehe

You have been a bit stupid - but you know that already.

It lowers the value by anything between 20% and 50% so only you know if you got a good deal. The last car I had was Cat D. I bought it for around a third less (than CAP) and sold it for similar.

If its straight (and safe) then don't worry about it, especially on a 2k car.

The Corsa seems a good motor! very strong on the journey home and the owner has treat it well judging by the condtion of the interior, not had much chance to look at the exterior cos of the rain!

I found out a car I was selling was a CAT C when someone did a check and told me, the damage was recorded when the car was quite new.

Well get back in the car and pay the man a visit. Get your money back or at least some of it to compensate if you want to keep it.

Why take it on the chin - get it sorted and stop moaning about it - you have already been a bit of a fool by not checking it first, dont be a bigger fool and take this lying down. FFS man
