Just wondering how many people use the garage function thing. I find it quite useful to see others experiences / costs of owning a car that I am thinking of buying. Although a lot of folk don't seem to even put down what cars they own / have owned, and even less use the blog thing that works out how much it costs to run per month / year.

I update my cars blog thing when I have just had a bill or whatever, as much for my own benefit as for anyone else's. Its good to keep track of what you spend on your pride and joy, and also quite good for justification / proof biggrin

yes i use it, not only to write about my car but also to have a look at others, sometimes there are some nice photos

on another note, the only i thing i find people doing on here is when a thread pops up regarding details on your car, people just talk about it either expecting you to know what car they own or to make you have a look in their garage. Just my little irritation.

I think it's an excellent tool, I wish more people used it!

Handy to work out what a car is costing you, and even more useful to be able to look up real world examples of running costs of other cars and see other peoples experiences.

I use it to justify owning a classic car, it seems to work out the same price as owning the GTV, once you take into account insurance / bills and stuff. Had to check that after spending £2,000 on her in one month though eek

It is such a useful tool though, and is such a help if you are looking at others running costs etc trying to work out if you can afford to drop 12k plus running costs on a Masserati / TVR... answer... no biglaugh

One thing that annoys me is when folk start slagging off a particular car or PH'ers car and yet don't have anything listed in their garage.

That's the point of it, though. smile

Saves everyone mentioning (or bragging about) their cars in every post. Some people like to mention their car in every single post and it can be rather tedious.

I use it to display my cars, and update them accordingly.

I've noticed that pattern - people who are unnecessarily negative about other people's cars are more likely not to have listed their own.

Possibilities:

They're too young to drive
They don't have a car
They have a car they know isn't very good

I think in some cases it's just jealousy - like the way that people who trot out that hoary old "couldn't afford a 911" crap are always people who couldn't afford a Boxster.

Yeah I've put a little bit of info in about my car. It's handy to try and keep track of the running costs.

Yes I keep mine updated (I tend to update it every few months) and I do sometimes check out others to see what they have in the garage. smile

Yep, I keep my mediocre garage updated but I haven't got the hang of this blog malarkey yet. I might actually rifle through the receipts and start doing that now.

I keep my "fleet" past & present updated, and will look at others too. As to the blog thing, and running costs, no chance. Because I really really don't want to know, it'll upset me far too much.

Yes, but I deleted mine the other week when I got the hump with PH & left temporarily.

I also sometimes judge people & their forum replies by their garages & information. getmecoat

Not really. I think on PH it is not that uncommon. Maybe more of note away from here.

There is always someone with better or more cars than you on here.

I don't use it to keep a track of day to day running costs of our small fleet, as there is a collection of brown folders, stuffed full of reciepts, on the bottom shelf in the office for such things.
I've put a couple of grainy photos in my profile just to give fellow PHers an idea of what sort of stuff I'm into, although not all of my car history is there simply because I'm far too lazy to trawl through the loft and dig out suitable pictures...

I used to keep it updated but the modifications messed up the running costs total
