Im about to buy an 07 135i msport coupe and want to know the potential of increasing performance. I'm used to driving a noble m12 every day but can't stretch to an m3. Got a good deal on the table with the 135 but can I change mapping, upgrade turbo's etc or is it a case of fiddle and ruin the car? I don't want to spend a fortune and need it to remain reliable hence the car change in the first place. Any cheap mods to tweak performance will be great if such things exist.

It's cheap-ish and easy to tune up to around 400 bhp, after that you'd be needing bigger turbos which aren't cheap. . . . Have a look at http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1897792.htm for an example

The 1addicts forum has quite a few examples of 400bhp upgrades in America, whether they are genuine or optimistic dynos then who knows?

Around 400 hp is fairly easy on that engine - I think most remappers offer around 380 just from a remap.

I know of a 135 that birds have uprated to 420hp fairly easily too.

Thanks for the replies. That sounds great. 380/400 would be fine after all it is going to be a daily driver and occasional baby carrier so over 400 would be too much (cant believe im saying that but have to be a little sensible)

any suggestions as to who could do that for me. i live in stotfold, herts/beds border but dont mind travelling a bit if its worthwhile.

I have a JB Plus in my 335i and done 30.000 km's without any hassle. Feels slow if you take it out haven't had it dynoed though.

JB3 with in car switchable maps from http://burgertuning.com/. Around £400 delivered. 360bhp - 380bhp with one of the built in maps, more if you are willing to put on a zorst, filters and downpipes. Easily self fitted and equally easy to remove for servicing etc.

The map gives the car blistering performance and huge torque, it transforms the power delivery from a gentle surge to a proper kick in the back. And the best part is it can be turned off so you can drive the car on its standard map when you want to be more sensible. I mostly drive with the standard map for fuel economy and to keep the turbo nutter mode as a treat.

Worth every penny. Oh and Aviva insured my car with the JB3 for very little more than standard.
