Windsurfing car

any suggestions? my VW Transporter has just given up the ghost at a smidge under 300,000k's and i need to replace before summers here again (This is being written in the Sunny Perth in Oz)

Has to take 5 people and 3 sets of windsurf kit, LONG distances.

open to suggestions!

(and after I buy that, I am off to get a proper car, but thats another "what car" thread..)

Or the newer one. Can fit a VW Camper awning for it, then put it in low range 4wd and drive onto the beach

ah, forgot to add, i'm a bit tired of Vans. this one will be driven to and from work during the week on a 60k commute, so nice n comfy would be a great addition...

Budget is around $25k + - $5k. (ozzie)

roughly equates to $12GBP, but cars in Perth tend to be very expensive
in comparison to UK.

(Check out Perth Honda Prelude prices, $12-$17k for a 2,000GBP car!!)

and sadly, i doubt the Rangie is big enough, we need 2.5m clear space in the boot.
(I also doubt the Audi, but ya gotta look!)

My brother is a surfer, and has an ex-AA van with hot and cold running water, linked up to a shower head, auxiliary heating etc etc.

Although keeping warm is, I imagine, less of a concern in Australia.

You're no doubt aware of this if you've windsurfed for a while, but I find that the height of the roof is a major consideration when choosing a car. My Dad's a keen windsurfer, and his BMW 3 series is a synch to pop windsurf boards and masts onto, because the roof's at chest height. In contrast, my girlfriend's Yaris is very tricky to load our kayaks onto, and some of the vehicles here would be near impossible. Mind you, changing is easier in a more upright vehicle...
