Creaking noise - suspension?

Hi, I've got an e46 330 and it's recently developed a creaking noise, which I think is coming from the front end. It's just passed it's mot this week, so I'm reasonably sure nothing's too far wrong, but it's a bit annoying on what is otherwise a quiet and comfy car. Is this a common problem easily fixed? Sorry if this has been covered before but the search is down at the moment.

This sounds like the ball joint on the wishbone.

I think you have to replace the entire assembly IIRC.

I'm guessing you get the noise when turning the steering wheel?

Cheers, just looked on Euro car parts and they're about £100ish.

That looks like a pain in the arse to change compared to just a ball joint...

Hmmmmm I've got this issue with mine also ('02 330i Sport), just ordered a set of coilovers, top mounts and droplinks. Might have to save up and get these too! Damn.

I concur with the ball-joint diagnosis. I'm currently getting the same noise on my E36 coupé and the OH tells me she needed a new ball joint when her car was making the same noise.
