I've had Porsches and Audis and BMW's for a number of years now.

Have always wanted an F Car or a Lambo, and it seems you can pick up a nice Gallardo for around £70k. Even a Spyder which would be lovely.

Are they generally reliable cars? I'd do about 4-5k miles a year in it. What goes wrong? I know Clutches would be common (I guess?)

Probably a tough question to answer - how much would you put aside for maintainence apart from servicing and consumables?

Thanks

I've had three Lambos now, and I don't put anything aside for maintenance - just servicing costs. The Countach always had a list of minor things that needed doing, nothing serious that would keep it off the road, but then it was a 20 year old car.

The Diablo and Murci just get used. Every now and then I put petrol in. I don't abuse the clutch when pulling away, and have never had to replace one yet. Only costs, other than servicing, have been tyres.

I'm not saying that Lambos never break down, but I don't believe them to be any more susceptible than any other high performance car out there.

Not one problem in the Gallardo in 5 years! It's been driven in the snow (it was the only car that would get up my drive) and other than normal servicing nothing has needed doing.

Oh actually it needed the handbrake adjusted, that’s it!

Reliable if not abused.
Be kind to the clutch and it will last, my smart car pulls away quicker from the lights, but the clutch in the G costs more than the Smart car.

Thanks for the responses guys.

So it does seem that the clutch is the only thing to be really careful off.

Is the Egear any better then? as you could easily drive off without abusing it.

What does a clutch cost to replace?

I've heard £2.5K to £5K indie to dealer. Make sure it is the latest sintered version.

I've had 4 new Lambos from the factory. No issues at all with the 3x Gallardo, great car's, especially LP560 onwards which have much better e-gear and few clutch problems.

Murci is another matter. E-gear pretty awful, mine was impossible to start smoothly in 1st or R and had a new clutch at 2,500 (just after I sold it)!

minor service cost c£1k, major c£2k
only other costs have been tyres, brakes and lots of petrol ( 13mpg average to date )
sintered e-gear clutch is still going strong at 20k

car feels solid : uniquely for a lambo, the gallardo is all but mass-produced from bought-in ( yes, often audi ) assemblies
this is a good thing !

however, beware that some body panels and trim items are outrageously expensive
