This is my first use of the + 1 in 300 plus posts.

Seems every horse box crawls along, would the horse fall over inside or something if the driver moved ever so slghtly to the left so we could pass easier.

Makes me want to shoot horses they do.

Why buy a horse and drag it around in a trailer. Can't imagine anyone buying a motorbike and taking it about on a trailer.

Because events are too far away from the stables to ride to.

FYI Go to any bike trackday and you'll see plenty of bikes being trailered or transported in vans.

Not wishing to incur the wrath of MBH, but you've obviously never owned a horse. Drive too fast and they will go lame (due to them constantly shifting their feet to counter the sway of the trailer/lorry) which can lead to horrendous vets bills (and more). Surely it's not that much of a hassle to overtake them

Aaah yes, but that assumes a reasonable level of driver skill and hand, feet and eye coordination. one suspects he has not the guile of Piquet, the cohones of Senna or the ruthlessness of Shuthwacker. :-)

I've never known of a horse go lame in a box, though it is common sense to not fly around in them i ageee some people are over careful. However to the above comment plenty of people take track bikes on trailers as they are not always road legal and it's to take horses to events/move stables etc.

Followed a slow horsebox some years ago where I felt certain the problem was not the driving but that the engine (and probably other bits) simply couldn't go any faster due to lack of maintenance.

Overtaking would have been nice but wasn't an option on that road.

The subject of my wrath was doing 10 to 25mph for ten miles along the twisties.

As there were ten cars ahead of me, tail to tail, with nobody overtaking anybody, that was not an option...

I nearly called a French restaurant to kidnap the bloody hoss...

tis just bad driving, whatever slow vehicle it is - tractor, tourist, or trailer etc. if you're holding up traffic, pull over, it's not rocket science, it's not only good manners but it's also in the highway code.

It's just yet another example of bad driving that 'speed kills' scamera's don't touch.

I have had reason to drive slowly on occasion, sometimes even equestrian, or some valuable antique, but oddly enough, even when I'm dawdling for no good reason, trying to drive slow, I'm still never the slowest on the road,..

I'll bite.

Was dragging one of our nags around today in the trailer.

A few of the hills we did struggle to beat the 40 mph barrier on ans we did go pretty slow on the roundabouts.

However, there were plenty of morons who had ample opportunity to get past (trailer wheels nearly in the gutter to let them see better) but still just sat there 6ft from the rear of the trailer....

Also, you try standing in the back of a van not being able to see the road ahead or know when the vehicle is stopping or speeding up and see how long you remain on your feet!

So who's at fault, the horsey driver for wanting to make sure his horse arrives fit and well or the ten wkers in front of you that wanted to sit at 25mph behind a horse box.
