As per the title really,

I am looking for track cars at the moment and have only just noticed how cheap the primera GT's go for...

Can anyone please tell me the differences in the 2 cars and also do they both have the Nissan SR20 engine?

Thanks

Cheers guys smile

I know its an odd choice but I have a limited budget and Read on here that they handle quite nice and have "decent" pace.

Please inform me now if I should steer away!!!

I would love RWD but I don't think I could afford it at the moment to be honest.

A BMW 3 series isn't too much to buy but a roll cage is about £1k so that kind of rules it out

An MX5 being soft top wouldn't have enough metal around me for my dad to agree to me getting frown

Unfortunately my dad will have a lot of say in this seeing as it will be kept at his house and he is quite protective of me and my bro and not overly keen on the track car thing (He has had his motor sport days now and they are behind him) frown

I would prefer to stay away from small hatchbacks such as pug's etc...

I know these aren't far from hatchbacks but so far I have looked at things like puma's and the other usual PH suggestions for track cars and am not having to look outside the box a bit.

Sorry for the essay guys.

The eGT is the older one (P10) and the GT is the newer one (P11)

I had a Primera GT and i absolutely loved it. You could drive it really hard and it would never complain. Ignore the FWD jibes. The handling more than makes up for it.

egt is just the older p10 primera, gt is p11.

Superb front wheel drive chassis thats excellent fun as standard , bomb proof sr20 engine can be thrashed forever. Make nice sleep cars. Engines need to be rev'd hard. Alot lighter than some other equivalent sized cars. Cheap as chips.

Odd choice of trackcar, FWD, not that quick. I guess they're cheap and though though.
Can't see what's odd about them.

Circa 150bhp and not a huge amount of weight. Handle exceptionally well for a FWD car, too.

Absolutely unburstable engines.

Can't go wrong, really - just watch for rot in the sills where they meet the rear arches.

SRI was just a trim level, rather than a proper 'hot' version, as I recall.

Mind you, even my old 2.0SLX was a laugh to punt along - 130bhp isn't too shabby, really.

It's double what my current track hack has.

Fair enough, I've never seen one on a trackday (they did well back in the BTCC days though), although I can see the practical appeal. The SRi (2 litre, not 1.6) is probably worth a look too.

For more shove, how about an Accord VTEC from the same era ?
I have - they go pretty well

A Mr Dirk Schoysmann spent a fair few hours tuning the spring and damper settings at the 'Ring on them as well.

They kept them for the GT but softened the lesser specs to give them a more comfortable ride on UK roads

Thanks for sharing the pic smile

What is everyone's opinion on what to go for (If I am eventually allowed)... A 1.7 puma or the Primera eGT/GT??

For utterly bulletproof and cheap track-hacking.... the Primula.

The Ford is a tidy little handler - but I doubt it's any better than the Primula, but the Primula will be cheaper to buy and the camchain engine will give less hassle than the Ford lump.

The eGT is a P10, and I think only comes as a saloon.

The GT is a P11, and comes as both saloon and hatchback. (I know, I've test drove both and bought a saloon).

The P11-144 sport is just a marketing ploy, and I lost interest at the P12, so i don't know if there was a sport model.

As above, I have a P11 GT, and it handles amazingly for a FWD car, and according to autodata charts, curb weight of 1400kg. Just watch out for the front upper control arms squeaking (bushes worn) and play in the kingpin/knuckle whatever you want to call it.

I imagine if you strip out the inside and just play around with the engine a little bit, then you'll get it flying.

I think I should add.... you can 'sell' the Primula to your other half as a 'sensible family hatch', too....

Primera wins hands down. No offence to Puma owners but i could not call a car with the dash out of a Fiesta worthy of praise at all (unless it's the Racing Puma)!

Good cars.

You won't go wrong with one. They will embarrass a lot of things if driven properly. smile

eGT was a saloon and a hatch. I hillclimbed one (at Wiscombe) and it was excellent entertainment. It was also the tow car for a caterham being used on the same day - effcient motorsport. I owned a P144 Sport Plus. Came with a 140bhp engine (unbreakable) and lots of kit, including climate control, xenons, etc. Well recommended.

eGT's had 155 bhp.

Mine was more than a match against my mates gsi2000!

I think the p11's had 140 bhp.
