Mothers in law
Discussion
My mother in law is French, lives in France and hardly speaks English. So as a result I don't have much to do with her, although she is a nice lady and we get on well.
My ex-MIL is a
(as is her daughter), she thinks she knows it all but in reality is as thick as a swimming pool filled with s
t. If you said to her you'd been to Tenerife, she'd been to elevenerife, you know the sort of person. I used to love proving the dried up old witch wrong.
What's your mother in law like and how do you get on with her?

Ex-MIL is ok, we have grown closer since her son (my ex) died, don't see her that often, which could be why we get on.
Current MIL is lovely, she's everything that my own mother isn't. She's been there for a shoulder to cry on, takes more of an interest in my life, actually talks to me, things that a mother should do.

My MiL is a sweetie. Just after I met my current wife I was getting divorced from my ex. which had meant me moving from London back to the Welsh borders with just £37 in my pocket and a suitcase of clothes. I had met the future MiL twice over the previous year since meeting her daughter. She is not a rich woman but withiout hesitation she lent me most of the money she did have (£8K) to put a 10% deposit on a cottage. I have paid her back since but won't forget that trust and generosity in a hurry. I liked her so much I maried her daughter!
My MiL is a lovely lady. Mainly just sits there and smiles a lot. She's Indian and while she speaks fluent English, I think she's a bit shy to speak as it is my mother tongue and I wonder if she is worried that she'd make a mistake and I'd think less of her for it - bit daft! One huge benefit of her being Indian that the food is exceptional whenever we go over to visit
It's interesting that she's from South India, her husband is North Indian and they can't speak each other's local language so they've always communicated in English. My wife's first language is English with Hindi second

I know what you mean. My MIL is Malaysian, and a really lovely lady - She also tends to be a bit shy when it comes to speaking English, I think in case she says something wrong.

Just like you, I get to sample the best Malaysian food ever, and normally whenever we are going for dinner, I always get to choose what she cooks (which pisses my OH off, as she never gets a choice)

te cook! How come we get all the poor home grown cooks? There must be someone living in the East whose family lives out of a microwave and the equivilent of Asda Smart Meals. I insist that we only employ overseas mums in school and hospital kitchens, as food technology teachers and in restaurants. We might then get some decent food!Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
