Pre Purchase... Porsche 111 Point Check

Hey All,

I'm getting there with buying a new motor & think I'm going to defo get a 997 C2s or C4s. I've got my eye's on one and am planning to get the owner to do the 111 point Porsche check before the purchase (which I'll pay for - £200 I think).

My question is... What will it actually tell me ?? Do porsche product a report on the vehicle that I could then look through and will they say yay or nay on if they'd warranty it (although I know I need to have owned for 90 days so will need to get another done).

Could someone please let me know as I don't want to waste my money getting the car checked if I won't get any info back.

Also.. how in-depth is the check/what do they check ?

It doesn't provide a list of the 111 points but I think you can get a good idea from this.

However from a sellers point of view just because the Porsche 111 point check flags up a fail it doesn't automatically mean you can chip the price. The battery is a classic example of where a non-Porsche fitment would score a fail for the 111 but in an owners eye a Bosch Silver (more ampage) 5 year guarantee is probably a better long term proposition.

If you have some non-OEM parts you won't necessarily need to replace them for the Porsche warranty but you just need to accept that the part would not be covered and if it was found to be the cause of a failure elsewhere, that part in turn may not be covered, which I don't think is an unreasonable stance.

Or like me, you could bank some money into an account to build up a slush fund.

Or you could do a deal with the seller (assuming it is a private seller), where you give him £200 to perform the inspection under his name, and if it passes, he pays for the warranty (which you add on to the purchase price) and he transfers it to you.

The 111 point OPC check is a bit of a farce. When I bought my car from an OPC, there were three things not right with the car even though it passed the check two days before!

And BTW Spy, what did you buy in the end? 997/996/993?

Anyone know if porsche will warranty a car that hasn't been serviced at porsche ??

The car I'm looking at has had the first 2 done at porsche & then the 3rd done elsewhere... although i'm told it's an approved independant whatever that means ???

They will, but only after it has had an OPC service - that's on top of the cost of the 111 point check. It'll obviously then have to be exclusively worked on by Porsche whilst under warranty.

They will, but you'll need to pay £200 for the 111 point inspection, about £2000 for a 48k service to qualify (plus brake pads and discs probably), plus £1000 for the warranty.

So about £3,200.

They insist on the full 48k service to qualify for the warranty, whcih will be more than that.

They also insist that you change anything they say before they will give you the warranty. This will probably mean discs and pads, and tyres maybe.

Then you have to pay for the warranty.

If you want Porsche Assist, first you have to endure Porsche Assfist.

Ummm, no they won't. They'll just force you to replace ALL non OEM parts with branded parts, regardless. The warranty doesn't work like that. Their choice, and they want all Porsche parts, even down to the smallest light bulb. No compliance, no warranty, simple...

What I'd do is get the report done then, if you want the warranty, get any and all non OEM parts replaced by an Indy prior to taking it to Porsche. Make sure the (OEM) brakes/tyres are well within tolerance and that there's no RMS weep, these are the things Porsche will sting you for. Also make sure the rads/ condensors are in good order.

How about an indy warranty? From a reputable independant, i'd guess it's as good as OPC warranty and consireably less and i don't think they care about OEM parts or not?

Just had a long chat with Warranty Direct which do a all singing policy for £900 per year with a £60 inspection up front. From what they said it covers everything up to the value of the car.. I asked 3 times if it covers the RMS & Intermediate Shaft and she said yes to both. Before taking out the policy I would want that in writting/email as this is my only real worry & why i want to get a warranty as can't afford 10k for a new engine.

Anyone have any warranty companies they can recommend ???

If you can't afford a new engine, then you have to buy a car with a Porsche warranty.

Why not just go the safe route and but a car from OPC which will come with a TWO YEAR Porsche warranty included.

Probably the better option imho. I'm assuming the price you're going to be paying isn't far off the one you'd get from an OPC. So why not buy direct, i'd recommend finding a better OPC though

I would buy from an OPC but the car i'm maybe buying is far cheaper as it's private. (prob 6k cheaper than from porsche)

I don't mind spending a bit getting a warranty but was thinking around the 1k mark.

I was looking at a Glasgow OPC car earlier in the year, it had a non Porsche Ipod device fitted, a Tookipor I think it was called.
I questioned the guy about the warranty because this device was fitted and at the same time mentioned about the stories on tinternet about wrong wiper blades etc. and you dont get the warranty, he said that it was just a bunch of 'anoraks' stories and that only the PCM would be discounted from the warranty because this device was wired into the PCM.

I think they will twist it to suit themselves especially when it is they who are applying for the warranty on their own cars but agree with you that it is better to go on the basis that all non Porsche parts will need to be replaced if you are a private punter wanting to put a warranty on your own car.

Buy cheap, get sh t. It's 6k cheaper because IT'S A BIGGER RISK. A risk which YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO LOSE ON.

Well..... I spoke to the service manager at my local OPC a few days before writing this response and specifically mentioned items such as the battery and the response I got was as provided. This compromise would appear to be backed up by 993AL's experience with OPC in Glasgow.
