Medway, Kent to Nottingham. Which way???

hoping you could help me...
ive gotta do a few stints from Kent to Nottingham and back over the next couple of weeks...
basically which way is best (or least bad i suspect), taking the M1 or the M11/A1(M)/A1 route... both are pretty much the same distance and pretty much the same time on google but as we all know that doesn't take crap like roadwords and traffic in...
help appreciated guys!!!

I go from leicester to maidstone quite often and as it takes time to go across to the A1, I susally start on the M1.
If the M25 is clear, i would syat on the M1 as fara s the M25, then around, across the bridge and into kent.
It not, then I cut across the A14 to either the A1 or M11 and down to the M25. One time on the m1,, I missed the M25 compleately and went through the Rotherhithe tunnel onto the A2.
Either way, its not a particularly pleasent journey.

A1 and then A52 which will take you in to Notts at Trent Bridge or turn off a couple of miles before for the southern ring road.
Watch the average speed cameras on the A52. There's a lot.
The M1 is just so uninteresting. Ar least there are roundabouts (less now) on the A1 to keep you awake.

As everyone above says Dartford-M25-m11-a14-a1 is best.
m25-m1 can be a carpark due to motorway works at the moment and then when on the m1 there are new gantry cams popping up from jct 6?? to jct 10?? iirc and then theres around 14-16miles of average speed cams 50 zone.
Did this same route today infact and doing similar tomorrow.
Beware on m11 just after joining to go north from m25 you come over the top of a hill and drop down into a valley. At the bottom of the dip there is a bridge over the motorway where there is quite often a mobile scam van.So beware both north and south. Seems to trap southbound more than north.

On A1m there is rarely plod but if there are any they tend to park alongside the overhead gantries which makes them a bit tricky to spot from a distance

Almost no roundabouts on A1 now.I've been using the M1 for years, in preference to the A1.
I tried out the A1 last week for a change. I was pleasantly surprised.
Ok the lane 2 owners club has hundreds of members on that road,
but when it went quiet it was occasionally possible to make
reasonable progress.
Also, style-wise, undertaking seems to the new black.
I counted dozens of folks undertaking the lane 2 owners club.
The problem using the A1 - A52 into Nottingham is the A46.
This is being dualled at the moment so the interchange of the A52/A46 can get very very busy, with super long tailbacks up the A52 towards Grantham (which is where you'll be coming from and is all single carraigeway).
If there's anyway you can get onto the A46 at J21a M1 you'll sail into Notts. with no problems.
