Well, my pain in the arse other half doesn't want me to get another weekend car, but instead plough money into a new kitchen - you know the little room you spend as much time out of as possible - make meal, take it out of kitchen, eat it, take pots back to kitchen, wash up, leave kitchen.

And the fking laugh is she says I don't need a car its just a 'Status symbol' so what the fk is a shiny new kitchen???

So I guess i will be taking a sabbatical from PH as it only goes to remind me of the fun and pleasure I could have with a two seater in the garage.
Good luck and See you around guys.

Martin:

Supercharged MX5 for the time being: Cheap and fun, reliable and not bad on fuel...

Marginally priced compared to the other things you were looking at

Then nip down to B&Q and put a patio set in the kitchen :et voila hehe

Say to her "so if I told you I had just spent X grand on a car, you would want the same on a kitchen, right?". Then tell her it works both ways.

Thats bloody cunning is that, isnt it...?!

Waiting till you've sold it (you did sell it didnt you?) so the moneys in the bank, THEN springing the kitchen thing on you.

Cant live with them. Cant shoot them.

I suggest a massive, prolonged strop, and leaving lots of classifieds lying about.

You could even just 'hang around' the kitchen annoyingly, with nothing to do, because the garage is empty.

She'll get the idea eventually.

Scottrs right though. Lots of cheap fun cars available.

You should have said you have already arranged to buy a car and its just being serviced and you would lose money if you pulled out of the sale now. wink. Plenty of interesting cheap cars for sale.

You can eat in a car , but you can not drive a kitchen !

I have been is same situation many times and occasionally you have to bow down to the wishes, tell her though that if you invest in a new kitchen that you want a significant improvement in her ability to cook .. seems fair to me

You still fancy le mans next year ?

Just tell her to fk right off, once she gets one over you that's it. Stand your ground don't back down who earns the money.

Cheers paul, but I'll give it a miss this time around, it wouldn't be as I envisaged without something spirited to drive there in.

Sorry to hear it Martin. I'd say dig your heels in and insist on a WIIFM ("what's in it for me").

Politely point out there would be no fancy Dan kitchen if it wasn't for your Elise going and say you'll settle for £3k for something fun. As has been said, lots out there but I'd be looking at a tidy Fiat Coupe for that, maybe modded to around the 300 mark.

All the best byebye
