Hello all,

I've recently taken ownership of a '73 3000M, which needs a great deal of work but that's another matter for now. Can anyone advise me on the build date of the car? I'm aware of the pre Jan '73 construction date rule, but the earliest record I have for the car is the date it left the factory, which was Feb '73. It was then registered in Mar '73. The chassis number is 2614FM. Any help or advice would be great, or if anybody knows who I need to contact. Thanks everyone. Flyingplum.

It is the reg doc that dictate it. No amount of "oh it was built 9 months before will help".

^^^ Try again.

If you can prove the car was manufactured before the cut-off, some time before being registered...

See below for information under "Documents you will need to produce"...

http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_...

I have two friends who have been successful in gaining "historic tax" status despite later registration dates.

Our 1600M is on a 1973 plate, but was built in 1972 and we've got it under tax exempt.

Contacted the very helpful Steve Reid. Doesn't look like it was built until early '73 and if it was earlier, I don't think I can prove it anyway. I have a copy of the factory sales document from Feb '73 but I don't think I can go any further back than that.

How did you prove it was built in 1972? If it's on the TVR build document, that's what I have already, but if you know something I don't, I'd love to know! Thanks.

I'm very reliably informed 2587 was built in January 1973 ...... happy to hear otherwise.

If chassis no.2587 was built in Jan 73, then I should be in luck with my 3000M. It is 2566FM first registered 15.2.1973 Some good news like free tax might motivate me to get back in the garage and get on with my rebuild.

To prove the build date for the DVLA you would need a Build Date Certificate, contact the TVR Car Club Archivist to find out if your car would qualify.

I'm not entirely sure. Its my dads car and he was the one doing all the stuff when it got bought.

having just had a quick look on the direct gov site, it seems that we may not have had to prove anything as it had been proved before, but I'm not entirely sure.

This should help you.

TVR club member? Email archivist@tvrcc.com. They hold the database produced from the TVR Factory Records. My 3000M (chassis 2460)was succesfully granted historic status by DVLC in 2007, although it was first registered 1 May 73 and tax had been paid since, the database proved it was manufactured October 72!
