Who feels genuinely sad when they sell their cars?

I felt quite sad when I sold my MX5 years ago. I sold it to an older chap who had a daughter that suffered from MS and the car was to take her out into the British countryside for her to enjoy as a passenger. Knowing the story, it was quite touching when he picked the car up with his wife and his daughter.
Other than that, I was really sad when I watched my GSXR600 be ridden away, possibly knowing that the guy I sold it to was likely to bin it (17 year old, just passed his test and restricting the bike to 33hp, poor thing.)

I really don't want to sell the Mustang, however with a new (motoring) addition to the family on the way it just won't get used

Well, perhaps that's part of it too? I'm not replacing mine yet and don't have that new car in mind as I normally do. I'm going to be going from a Z4 Coupe to a Corsa.Is it really that bad, even when you get a new toy?
Devastated when I got rid of the Fiat Coupe 20 v Turbo.
Only reason I got rid of it was it needed the following work:-
New drivers seat
Air con condensor
New discs & Pads all round
New clutch
New bonnet slight bump on it
New front grill
Major service required
Needed new screen wash bottle
Add all that together its a lot of wedge so I ran it as far as I could knowing that the above needed doing then chopped it in against a Mondy ST.
Was I sad when the Mondy ST went? Yes as it cost me a lot in depn, ins excess and lost extended warranty.
Current car would I be sad if it went - totally but Im keeping it for 3-4 years and may then buy it outright and run it into the ground. But cannot say for sure until that time passes and my requirements are known at that time.

I do, I absolutely hate selling my cars. I was genuinely gutted when I dropped off the Evo at my team mate's house (he's a used car dealer). According to the gf I was in a noticeably bad mood for a few days afterwards as well!
I even had a twang of sadness when I sold the Focus, which was really just a hack for its 8 years service in the Wookie household.
I tend not to really associate the memories with the cars as I've had too many at any given time to associate an 'era' with them, I actually get attached to the cars themselves.

When I sold my focus I was sad to see it go, strange really as for the previous six months I had started to fall out of love with it and wanted something new. Now its gone I realise what a good car it was and how much I miss it, despite it being a diesel!!
The next day though I went to pick up my mx-5...was so happy, had wanted one for years. 4 days lated I wrapped it round a lamp post and it was written off. That was 10 weeks ago and I'm still depressed.

but, circumstances change during your life and sometimes decisions have to be made.

If people do get genuinely upset when selling their cars; don't sell them. The logic is flawless.
I've done that for the most part, unfortunately I didn't have much choice with the Evo, it was have a car sitting in the garage that I couldn't afford to run, or sell it and buy something more 'useful'GravelBen said:
Depends on the car - was a bit sad seeing my old MX5 drive off down the road despite knowing I was getting a better one a week later. Maybe its not so much the car as the memories tied up in it.
I think your right regarding the memories. Every car and I usually trade in rather than sell. I will just have a few quiet minutes thinking of the places and eventful drives we did before handing over the keys. I was quite fond of my TT Roadster but the excitement of picking up a brand new car at the dealers last Saturday was quite distracting and took away the hint of sadness I usually feel when parting with a car I have enjoyed.
I did have to pop back in yesterday and it was there on their forecourt having just been test driven, made me feel a bit sad as I drove off leaving it behind - seemed strange after 3 or so years of jumping in it and driving.

I was genuinely upset when I sold my first car, worst thing was seeing it a few months later all chaved and beat up.
Was all excited about my second car, likewise sad to see it go.
The third, civic type r, wasn't so sad to see it go as didn't really keep it long enough to be attatched to it.
Would be upset to see the current one go, unless I knew I was picking up a tvr in a few days following!

I've always been glad to get shot.
I've always moved on to something better, or more suited to my needs so I've never felt sad.
It's just metal at the end of the day. If I want another, I'll go out and buy one.
If I restored something from scratch or had something with sentimental value it'd be different I think.
