Buying a second hand car runaround to focus on ?.

I am currently looking at buying a 2000/1/2/3 peugeot 406 hdi saloon/estate of the 90/110/136 varient for 1250 to 1500.

My point of my post is that i am currently focusing on not much over 100k on the clock/no dents/rust and all working for as cheap as possible.

I seem to drift off from the above criteia when i see late plate ex taxi/police cars and wonder if these cars are really worth considering ?.

Do the high milers mean that most of the big parts that could break would have been done and its the sensible way forward as long as its clean and cared for be a better buy then one ticking over to a 100k ?.

You often see a lot of these for sale with 150/170/200/200+K miles on the clock, the highest I have seen is 345K!! I was looking at getting one as a cheap smoker for the winter to keep the MX5 off the road. Supposed to be bombproof those Pug diesels if looked after correctly.

Wouldnt worry too much even at 150K miles, as long as it has some history most importantly cambelt change history (every 60K on these I think).
