Remove the rear engine cover to improve cooling?

has anyone remove the rear engine cover to improve cooling and lose weight?

What's teh downside to such a move besides more noise? Engine getting wet?

The indise of the engine cover has a foil heat sheild.
I have heard of the paint finish being marred from the heat. I wouldn't do it.

I wouldnt do it .. I had it off durig a test run after my new plugs and its a LOT louder.
