I think I've found this system's fatal flaw - you never see pandas or trafpols!

And this is news? Where do you think all that Police, Camera, Action crap comes from? As far as I can tell, this is just new technology for something that trafpols at least have been doing for years

Can't see them fitting it to panda cars, because most panda drivers are so bad that they'd end up getting banned on their own evidence

Got no problem with this. As long as they dont tie it in with yet another "super speed camera" type system then good for em.

Only people that have got things to hide are the MLOC, tailgaters and general twats

Could be interesting if they black box it to the panda.

Today I caught a tailgater, a middle lane hog and myself speeding seven times. Think of the paper work this will create, will the system even be turned on if this is the case.

Aren't these cameras just supposed to be a CCTV type thing for use when a copper is dealing with a disturbance?

Trafpol's already have all the cameras they need to deal with traffic offences. Panda cars should not be used for dealing with traffic offences as the officers are not properly trained for the role.

I assume, but don't know for sure, that it will be covered under the CCTV laws. We won't really know until someone fights it in court.

Forgive me, but what exactly is your problem? Traffic cars already have video. This is just untamperable (yeah, I know it's not a word) digital video - new technology to do the same job. Pandas I guess will use it to video disturbances or breaches of the peace.

Benefits to plod - cheaper (maybe in the long run?), less space required to store data (I bet there's some obscure law that says they have to keep it for 6 years or summat). Benefits to us - well if you're a crim, tailgater, dangerous driver, knocking some bird about outside a nightclub, not much at all - oh, that might be the point .

[waffle]I'm no more a fan than the rest of you of constant surveillance and tracking individuals, but at least this is switched on at the discretion of a trained plod (hm, that would be what we all argue for constantly on here then ) who has deemed it appropriate on the basis of what he's seen and the context it was done in. Can someone tell me why I should be upset about this? Of course it can be abused, but so can every other technology (cars are abused by crims - should we ban them?). Everything that is beneficial in one context can be damaging in another. [/waffle]

An easy-to-use dashboard display allows officers to turn the cameras on and off as they need them ...

'Err Pete turn that camera off, we need to give this chav a good kickin'

If we have to be subject to CCTV then I see no reason for the BiB CCTV to ever be turned off. There might be an instance of bad policing that should be highlighted however I think there are a few chavs that probably need a good kickin!

As for CCTV as far as I know it has to be kept for 30 Days. You also have to display a sign that tells you CCTV is being used and for what purpose along with the operators contact details.
