Peugeot 206 GTi - any good, running costs etc

Thinking of a cheap GTi hatch and a 206 looks to fit my bill, but I don't know much about them , so can anyone help ?
First up I take it they are a cam belt engine, so any ideas on how much an indy would charge to fit a new belt or can it be an easy DIY job ?
Any pointers on typical problem areas and general things to look out for when viewing ? Oh, some cars seem to have 'DAC+CC' in the headline part of the ads - what's that mean ?
Will be looking at the cheap end of the market at £1K - 1.5K

Cheap 206 just has bad news written all over it IMHO

Would a nice clean Mk3 Golf 16v not be a better budget buy?

£1.5k fun hatch has to be a clio 172 IMHO

It would only be for the winter ( hopefully ) so it's not a keeper in any way.
I quite like the look of the 206, plus its the right size, can't say I'm all that for a Golf mk3. The 306 GTi is nice, just thought the newer 206 would be a better bet.

Clio 172 or 182, despite being french, is a much more promising purchase
