A 1.5 doesn't seem like much of a tribute!

Well it says it was his idea and I think if so it's quite fitting and a lot more effort and work on Toyota's part then simply knocking a limited edition LFA together.

I think it has the potential to be pretty interesting, especially if they can keep it under 1000kgs as they mention.

Every week the supercar manufacturers come up with a 200mph+ beast with a crazy price tag. It's easy money.

If they pull this off anything like as described and at £10k it'll be something special.

I've been lucky enough to drive the Aygo Crazy a project of Toyota GB that you often see at shows etc. With an MR2 Turbo lump in the boot & rwd, it's a hoot to drive!!

A front engined lightweight rwd model would be great fun. It'd be like a modern KP30 smile

Good on you Toyota for getting on with some decent cars, now if you ever need a need a new test driver.....

If I didn't already have an old skool Mini, I would want to have this as my first car. So few cars with small engines are RWD and insurable for us young folk. I'd love to see this make production, nobody makes cars like this any more.

It's a fitting tribute because it brings the joys of RWD handling to a much larger group of people. I'm sure he might possibly have wanted that.

ASC will sort that! Though smart cars arent actually that bad despite rwd and a very small whrelbase, you have to be on it but I think theyre no worse sideways than a big softly sprung saloon with no lsd and big tyres.

I want one though. As will many others who dont have a cheap rwd option. What are the cheapest new rwd cars? 1 series and smart car? The 1 series arent very cheap really.

I have got to say that an original smart is a bit of a challenge once you get it sideways, especially in the dry. The question you have to ask yourself is "just how quick can I turn a steering wheel".

It does take some determined effort to get one sideways, to their credit. I find a big soft rwd saloon about ten times easier to control.
