One of the first jobs on my 323 coupe trackday car will be to fit new front pads and discs as they have seen better days. Any suggestions for alternatives to OEM? I'm on a very tight budget, so can't afford to go overboard but cost-effective improvements are always good (2-3 trackdays a year and a few weekends in the Dales).

Thanks,

Just had a search on eBay and it seems the options are to go for 'standard' vented apec discs and mintex pads for £40 or drilled and grooved discs and pads for £165. Presumably it will be worth spending the extra for the better brakes?

Either are considerably cheaper than the £240 wanted by kwik fit, even if I have to pay someone to fit them.

Fiat Coupe Bembo's and 300mm 740 disks. You'll need 16 or 17 inch wheels to clear them though and modify the carriers.

Photo was taken at the trial fit stage of my £999 Challenge project (standard disks etc). You can make a pair of brackets to fit the calipers another 30mm wider so a 330mm (M5)disk can be fitted. The Fiat Coupe Brembos are already fitted to an ABS system as standard and larger capacity of the calipers could result in more pedal travel so I'd fit a better master cylinder as well.

Thanks for that Caboosemoose. Will the 300mm discs fit under 15" wheels, or will I need 16" wheels?

300mm disks would require larger wheels. That's why I haven't fitted the Brembos to my £999 car yet because I would have to budget for bigger wheels as well as adding the price I paid for the calipers and bigger disks. The calipers fit the 286mm carriers and are longer, but the holes in the carriers need to be 2mm bigger.
