Hi all
I,m new to this forum and have joined in the hope some like minded members could provide some valuable experience to help me make my mind up on my first Lamborghini purchase . I am interested in a Diablo first and foremost , models include the VT , VT Roadster and SV in particular . Could anyone give the pro's and cons on these models . I hear they are completely differant drives too . Thanks to all .

if you want to try an sv send me an email, unfortunately i've only driven my own diablo so can't compare with a vt, tbh the difference can't be huge but it's nice to know you have the angry one laugh , it's easy to live with for a real supercar just the width can be unerving at first, mine's been reliable and i'd say generally the mechanicals are tough, get used to people staring a diablo is a serious crowd puller, had mine advertised a couple of weeks ago then changed my mind now i'm decided and it should be on again later today, regardless of this you're welcome to come see and try really low miler, drive one of each then you will know what you want, biggest problem is finding a good onescratchchin

Hi
generally buy the later power steering ones. SV is quite raw and different to the VT's. A bit more snappy tail wise if you take liberties with it and the steering is different. Heavier on the VT.
If you intend to use it all year round then the VT is better and smoother ride. If it is a summer fun car then the SV is fine. the later audi supervised cars are the best of the breed with the 6.0 regarded as the best and most usesable and fastest. Various special models eg SE30 and GT but quite rare
If i sold my Countach I would go for a 6.0!!
Main thing is to avoid the very early non PAS ones which although cheaper may not be the best model choice.
Hope this helps

Thanks Paul for the advice , I couldn,t push the budget to a 6.0 however , wish I could but it's just out of my reach at present . Andy let me know on your SV if its for sale or not , tried emailing you direct but needed to be a member for more than 24hrs . Andrew , North Norfolk is a bit tight , luckily I,m south where the roads are a bit wider , still got the tractors to look out for though . Regards Ricky

lol, Ive only driven, 2wd,VT,SV,6.0 viewed a SE30,GT and then bought the 2wd. Wanted the raw feel of the supercar and now looking to replace with the GTR as it isnt raw enough. But they ARENT the ONE to avoid. Its like saying doh wouldnt buy a Maclaren because its hasnt got traction control or PAS.....then i guess people wouldnt buy the lp400 over the countach QV cas it has 4 valves per cylinder ? Each car has its pros and cons. Drive as many as you can, join LCUK and meet the owners and then make a informed choice !

Hi Ricky - welcome to the seething cauldron of PistonHeads!!

I agree with AdeLou! - the best and simplest option in the long, middle and short run is to do two things:

Firstly, join Lamborghini Club UK. We know most of the Lamborghinis that are out there one way or another and in many cases they will have been owned by at least one Club member or have been 'in our eye' for quite a number of years!

Secondly, having joined the Club or when you are about to join the Club (hint... hint...) we can suggest a few pitfalls you might like to avoid and suggest that a particular car or cars might be a good choice or a bad choice - not that we would ever recommend any car or dealer any more than we would ever recommend a member avoid any car or dealer either.

In that respect, to narrow down the field and scope for distress, I would recommend having a good ol' trawl through the thousands of posts here on PistonHeads and try to get a feel for the better locations of the kind of Diablo you are after - they are out there!

Some are excellent purchase opportunities either privately or from a choice of dealers = sadly, some are certainly not and LCUK can help you navigate your way through all that confusion.

As I'm sure others may say, there are obvious dealers to avoid since you don't have unlimited funds (who does???) and there are a few better dealers that would make travelling a little distance away from Norfolk at least worth the effort, if only via the internet!

Also, if my battered old connection is working at all, (versus my not-battered and far newer iMac, which is in for emergency repair after a dvd totalled in internal drive last Friday), you should have a message via PistonHeads with my contact numbers - please feel free to call me!

Hi There. i have just picked up my Gallardo today after my tubi system was fitted and i noticed several Diablos in the garage while i was there. One in particular was a rare candy red SV roadster with the open headlights. Im sure there were several other models. Maybe worth checking the website as there are always lots of nice diablos. www.topgear-cars.co.uk

... that is a great car that is that rare colour and is a Diablo SV but not a Roadster as well - though there were (literally) one or two of those built by Lamborghini as opposed to the few more that were 'made to be 2wd Roadsters with SV badges on', I think!!

That red SV isn't a roadster? I thought the only right hand roadster was the blue one that was rear-ended and repaired.

Having owned a Diablo VT (the blue one on topgear-cars) and Murcielago, I would go back to a Diablo. I still rmember trading my Diablo in for the Murcielago and when I looked in the garage with the Murcie in it. my first reaction is I had made a mistake. But I grew to like the Murcie a bit more over the years but still craving to go back to a diablo. Hence, I am torn between the SV or VT Roadster as well. However, the Candy Red SV is a absolute stunner having seeing it for myself at Carlos garage. And with open headlight model, it made it even rarer. Plus it is a more fun car to drive.......Plus I always think the Diablos had much better road presence than the Murcie or gallardo......

Get yourself a ride in an SV (the bigger 530 version) you'll be well and truly hooked! or if funds allow go for a 6ltr or GT.

The lads in the Lambo club will help you.

Hi Lombok
PM sent with details.

Good advice here - chat to all the owners and have a look at the cars.
You'll soon know which ones to look at, and which ones to walk right by!!!!

That rd SV is an immaculate car. The previous owner looked after it incredibly well. I'd go for it if I didn't already have my 6.0.

Ricky,

It all depends on your budget. Dont stretch yourself. Can we ask roughly what amount you seriously want to spend?

I viewed quite a few last year, one being described as concours only for it to be an absolute dog, had it verified by a Lambo technician. Anyway, my car hasnt cost me much in terms of maintenance, just silly things i wanted sorted but it has been an ansolute delight. Now im moving to the 6.0 mid 2011 and amd shifting mine on. Its a Bonzai Blue 96 VT, 16,500 miles and 100% mint externally and mechanically, believe me you wont find a thing, not even a blemish and this is rare. Anyway, you need to decide your budget as that will determine your model.

Good luck,

Matthew
