Carbon canister

I've noticed my tank whooshing after a run when I remove the petrol cap,
does this sugest the carbon canister needs looking at? What do you do with it
anyway, does it need draining or what?

There is a solenoid valve on the top of the canister to vent (to the inlet manifold, I think) - mine failed and I had persistent tank pressurisation problems until I fixed it.

Thanks, I did a bit of digging and have come to that conclusion.
Can you just change the electrical part, or is it a single unit with the can?
Looks pretty simple to change.

I couldn't find the valve alone so I changed the whole thing.

My tank makes that wooshing noise although it is very minor, both when I had the carbon canister and after I chucked it. Which suggests it was blocked. After getting rid of the CC the car runs smoother and doesn't sometimes hesitate like it used to.

Did you plug the vacuum line or leave it open?

I plugged the line at the engine end. So where there was a four way pipe junction there is now a three way.
