furiousIt makes my blood boil every time I think about it, fuel pricing on garage forecourts that is.

Why do they insist on charging for fuel with "point nine" on the end? You can't pay in point nine. If they want 116 pence, for example, why don't they charge that? We all know that 115.9 pence is the same. Fair enough, we rarely put just one or two litres in a car, (or even a lawnmower) but if for example you put in thirty, it would only cost you 3 pence more i.e. £34.80 rather than £34.77, hardly going to break the bank is it?

I can only guess that it is some sort of sales technique, as seems to be the way everywhere, like when buying your pride and joy, if they want £25K for the motor just say so, don't ask for £24,995, they can have the fiver......now I've got myself started....sofas...£499 NO £500.......to quote a wise Merekat......SIMPLES

I'm going back to my padded room now, it's lock up time, meds first. Adios Gassers

Sales psychology probably but that 3 pence or fiver or whatever is better off in my pocket etc

For that matter, why is the "minimum delivery" two litres?

Who would ever want to buy less?

What happens if you fill your tank with 1.5 litres then go in to pay? Do they make you put the extra half-litre in your pockets for later?

I think it's a 117.9 a litre, and I can't put exactly £30's worth of fuel in the tank. Always £30.01.

So what range does that give you? About 1500 miles at a guess? I'd imagine it's very efficient for the mass moved, relatively of course!

Depends on the route.
If it's nice and flat and lots of coasting ,then lasts for ages . But if crawling across London following passenger trains and climbing and braking, you have to keep an eye on the fuel level.

Someone who has ran out of petrol nearby, only has a 1 litre bottle and isn't willing to spend any money outside of the 1 litre of fuel?

It doesn't bother me. If I want to put about x amount in, I keep filling until I get to about x amount. I pay with a card and so it doesn't matter if I'm at x+1.

Unless it's at one of those lesbian fuel stations. God, they should be banned.

I've been paying for my petrol at a garage before when some dirty smelly mouthbreather has come in and payed for 2 pounds worth of petrol for his clapped out XR3i!

It sounds fun but I had to be at work for 4 am and ended up miles from home .
Mind you I'm test driving new passenger trains tomorrow so I get a lie in.

One of our bigger engines is fitted to a Komatsu mining equipment. 50 gallons per hour are used! It runs 24/7

Nothing happens at all. I think it's to do with accuracy of metering - not guaranteed to be accurate on very small deliveries or something like that. Still perfectly possible to dispense less than two litres and they don't give you any hassle when you go to pay for it.
